Crouin Crowned Individual Champion, Scherl Takes Consolation Title as Men’s Squash Concludes Season

PHILADELPHIA – Harvard's Victor Crouin is leaving the 2022 CSA Men's Individual National Championships with a title in hand. The senior won the second Pool Trophy of his collegiate career on Sunday, claiming victory in a thrilling five-game final against Princeton's Ibrahim Youssef at the Arlen Specter U.S. Squash Center.

Crouin won an extended opening game, 16-14, but then dropped the next two to trail 2-1. The native of France was able to reel off games four and five, however, ultimately winning 12-10 in the decider.

Crouin lost a narrow decision to Youssef during the regular season, 3-2, but was able to flip the result on Sunday. He outscored opponents 12-2 during four matches in the Championship.

The win marks the fourth straight season that a Harvard representative has won the Pool Trophy and the 40th such time overall. It also punctuates a third consecutive season in which the Crimson captured both the team, and individual, national titles.

Senior captain Samuel Scherl was also victorious on Sunday, winning the consolation bracket final over Yale's Harrison Gill, 3-1. Scherl fell his Pool Trophy opener to the fifth seeded Aly Abou El Einen but proceeded to triumph in all three of his back draw matches over the weekend.
