CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard football defensive unit was sharp on Saturday at the team's annual spring game inside Harvard Stadium. The group, which was the No. 1 rush defense in the FCS in 2021, showed no signs of rust in a game that lasted three periods and drew a crowd of nearly 400 fans.
Defensive back
Cam Stone had the play of the game, intercepting a
Charlie Dean pass and returning it 50 yards for the touchdown. The El Dorado Hills, Calif., native also added 2.5 tackles on a day where 25 different players recorded multiple tackles.
For the game,
Nick Yagodich led all players with 4.5 tackles to go with one sack, while
Kwaku Adubofour was credited with four tackles.
Jacob Psyk, meanwhile, had a team-high three sacks.
On the offensive side of the ball,
Malik Frederick rushed eight times for 37 yards and caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from
Curt Casteel.
Shane McLaughlin and
Israel Benjamin added 25 and 23 yards on the ground, respectively.
Tyler Neville led the receivers with 52 yards.
The Crimson is coming off a 2021 season in which it posted an 8-2 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the Ivy League. The eight wins were the program's most since 2015, and the five conference victories were the Crimson's most since 2016.
