CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The William W. "Bill" McCurdy Director of Track and Field/Cross Country,
Jason Saretsky, has announced 19 incoming first-years in the Class of 2026.
"I'm so excited to welcome the Class of 2026 to Cambridge," Saretsky said. "Our coaching staff and current student-athletes once again did a fantastic job attracting some of the best and brightest in the world to Harvard. I'm looking forward to their arrival on campus and the big things we will achieve together."
Harvard heads into 2022-23 after a strong return to cross country and track and field competition last year.
Both Harvard cross country men and women clinched berths to the NCAA Cross Country Championships last fall, finishing 12
th and 25
th, respectively, which were both second-best in Harvard history. Led by junior
Isabell Sagar (3rd) and sophomore Maia Ramden (5th), the Harvard women's team won the 2021 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships with five runners finishing in the top 12 to help Harvard earn its first women's title since 2016. On the men's side senior
Matthew Pereira finished first overall to earn the individual Heps crown, helping the men's team finish second overall. Associate head coach
Alex Gibby earned USTFCCCA Men's and Women's Northeast Region Coach of the Year honors, and was Ivy League Coach of the Year on the women's side as well.
During the indoor track and field season, the women's team won its first Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championship since 2017, and the men's team placed second, its second straight runner up finish at Indoor Heps. Saretsky was named Ivy League Women's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year, as 22 Harvard track & field athletes achieved All-Ivy status by finishing among the top two in their respective events at Heps. The indoor season also saw national recognition as Saretsky was voted the Northeast Women's Head Coach of the Year and associate head coach
Marc Mangiacotti was voted the Northeast Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.
In the outdoor season, both the Harvard men's and women's track and field programs finished in second place at the 2022 Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. Harvard earned 10 individual Heps titles with an even split – five individual men's champions and five individual women's champions. Senior discus thrower
Sam Welsh was named Most Outstanding Men's Field Performer of the Meet. The Harvard men's team recorded its highest finish at the Ivy outdoor championships since 1983. Harvard had seven entries at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with six male entries, the most since 1964. Mangiacotti was again voted the Northeast Men's Assistant Coach of the Year for the outdoor accolades of men's sprints and horizontal jumps.
The incoming Crimson come from all over the world, spanning seven states and eight countries.
