Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's hockey battled from behind in this morning's contest against the St. Lawrence Saints, scoring two goals in the second period on its way to a 2-2 tie. The Crimson (4-10-3, 3-7-3 ECACH) got goals from
Mia Biotti and
Hannah Chorske to help the team grab one and a half points in the conference standings.
The Crimson played in front of a crowd of 800 sixth graders during Harvard Athletics' second-ever education day. The group brought the energy to Bright-Landry as Harvard stormed from behind to get the result.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints came out of the locker room flying, putting 19 shots on net and one goal on the board in the first frame. The Crimson created a couple of solid chances but came up empty after 20 minutes.
- Alex Pellicci made 18 saves in the first period to keep the Crimson within striking distance.
- Kristin Della Rovere continued to dominate on the faceoff dot, beginning the game by winning nine of her first ten draws.
- Harvard brought the pressure in the second period, putting four quick shots on goal in the first minutes of the second period.
- St. Lawrence countered with an attack of their own, putting a goal on the board 9:46 into the period to extend its lead to 2-0.
- The Crimson answered just 43 seconds later when Mia Biotti got the group on the scoreboard with her second goal of the season. Junior Shannon Hollands set up Biotti after carrying the puck through the offensive zone and finding her at the point.
- Later in the period, Hannah Chorske scored her second goal of the season on a great individual effort to tie the game. The sophomore took advantage of a SLU breakdown, snatching the puck and driving it to the net. Her first shot was denied by the Saints goaltender, but her rebound chance snuck in the side of the net to equalize the score at two goals apiece.
- The third period was a back-and-forth affair, as both sides refused to let the other team get the advantage. Alex Pellicci saved another 12 shots in the period to help the team force an overtime period.
- Harvard's defensive unit played strong in the closing minute of regulation and OT. Biotti finished the contest with a game and season high six blocked shots, two of which came with under a minute left and the Saints threatening to score.
- The overtime period was an extension of the back-and-fourth third frame, as both teams created great scoring opportunities in three-on-three play.
- Shannon Hollands and Kristin Della Rovere nearly had the game winner in Harvard's best chance during extra time. Charging down the ice on an odd-man rush, Della Rovere swung a pass over to Hollands that was nudged just enough by the Saint defender to keep it out of reach. Hollands collected the puck and threw a wrap-around shot attempt on goal, but was denied as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Mia Biotti scored her second goal of the season to even the score in the second period. Both of her goals this season have come against St. Lawrence.
- Hannah Chorske also notched her second goal of the year with a great individual effort, slamming home a rebound chance after her initial shot was denied.
- Alex Pellicci had another tremendous effort in the crease, making 44 saves to preserve the tie.
- Biotti also recorded a season high six blocked shots in the effort to lead the team.
- Kristin Della Rovere extended her double-digit faceoff win streak to 16 games after winning 18 draws. Shannon Hollands also had an effective game on the dot,
- Additionally, the Crimson won 16 of 20 faceoffs in the second period.
- Anne Bloomer put a game-high eight shots on net in the victory.
- Hollands registered a point with an assist on the Biotti goal, giving her points in four of her last seven contests.
- Kyra Willoughby added the secondary assist on the Biotti goal.
- Harvard gainec 1.5 points in the conference standings with the victory, giving them 14.5 total, keeping them at in No. 7 in the ECAC.

The Crimson will continue conference play with a road trip to Dartmouth on Friday (Jan. 13), before traveling to Bridgeport, Conn. for a nonconference battle with Sacred Heart in its brand new rink.
