CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard forwards
Matthew Coronato,
Sean Farrell, and
Alex Laferriere were named as nominees for the 2023 Hobey Baker Memorial Award on Thursday (Jan. 19).
Harvard has had four winners of the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey's highest honor, in program history, including Mark Fusco (1983), Scott Fusco (1986), Lane MacDonald (1989), and Jimmy Vesey (2016).
Coronato, a sophomore forward from Greenlawn, N.Y., is off to a fast start, recording 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 17 contests to start the year. After leading all NCAA first-years with 1.06 points per contest in 2021-22, Coronato is among the nation's best once again, averaging 1.18 points per game (19
th, NCAA). Playing in all situations for the Crimson, Coronato has once again scored many of Harvard's biggest goals of the year thus far in 2022-23.
Farrell, a junior forward from Hopkinton, Mass., leads the Crimson in scoring with 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 17 games this season. One of the most dynamic players in all of college hockey, Farrell is fourth in the NCAA in scoring (1.47 points per game), and is second in the nation with four game-winning goals. He has recorded a team-best eight multiple-point efforts on the year and has recorded a point in 14 of 17 games this year.
Laferriere, a junior forward from Chatham, N.J., is also among the NCAA leaders in scoring with 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists). A three-time ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week honoree this season, Laferriere has added a team-high four power play goals. He has scored several highlight reel goals on the season, including a game-winning goal in overtime at Princeton on Jan. 6 that helped Harvard rally from a 3-0 deficit for a 4-3 win.
