Men’s Squash Set for a Pair of Top Three Matchups

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The best of men's college squash will be on display this weekend in the Murr Squash Center as No. 1 Harvard Men's Squash (7-0, 3-0 Ivy) welcomes two top-three ranked conference foes.  First, the Crimson will battle No. 3 Princeton (3-0, 2-0 Ivy) on Saturday January 21 at 12:00 p.m.  The following day will be a rematch of last year's National Championship match as Harvard closes the weekend at 12:00 p.m. against No. 2 Penn (10-0, 2-0 Ivy).

What to know

  • The Crimson went 2-0 last weekend, defeating No. 4 Yale, 7-2 and No. 6 Trinity, 6-3.
  • In Harvard's 7-0 start, the Crimson have won 57 matches while only dropping six.
  • Senior co-captain George Crowne has been dominant this season, winning all seven of his matches at the No. 2 and 3 position.  Crowne is the only Crimson player to sweep his opponents in both matches last weekend.
  • Last match, Marwan Tarek grabbed the last win for the Crimson, besting his opponent in four games and improving his season record to 6-0.  All of Tarek's wins have come at the No. 1 position.
  • Along with Tarek and Crowne, first-year Denis Gilevskiy has gotten his career off to a hot start as he remains undefeated on the season with a record of 5-0 at the No. 5 and 6 positions.
  • Harvard currently leads the all-time series over Princeton 65-27, having won the last ten matchups between the squads.  The last time the two programs met in 2021-22, the Crimson narrowly downed the Tigers, 5-4.
  • The Crimson also remain ahead in the all-time series against Penn, 78-4.  Last season, Harvard fell to the Quakers during the regular season but prevailed in the National Championship, winning the tight match, 5-4.

Next up

The Crimson will return to action next weekend for another pair of back-to-back Ivy matchups.  On Saturday January 28, Harvard will travel to No. 8 Cornell and the following day, on January 29, the team will take on No. 9 Columbia.  The two matches will be the final Ivy League contests of the regular season.
