CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard wrestling went toe to toe with Binghamton and Cornell, but fell in both matches, 19-13 and 27-12, respectively.
Diego Sotelo and
Yaraslau Slavikouski both went 2-0 on the day to lead the Crimson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first match against Binghamton began with a Crimson victory courtesy of Diego Sotelo, who earned a major decision and four points for Harvard.
- After a Binghamton decision, Joseph Cangro added a win for Harvard to increase its lead to 7-3.
- Harvard and its opponent traded another pair of matches, as the Bearcats took home three points at the 149 lbs. weight class before Evan Gleason recorded a 5-0 win at 157 lbs. to keep the lead in Harvard's hands at 10-6.
- Binghamton picked up three straight victories to take a 16-10 lead.
- At 197 lbs., Mike Doggett was locked in an absolute battle with his opponent. The bout would go to extra time before Binghamton got a pair of takedown points to officially clinch the match.
- Yaraslau Slavikouski notched another win on his season with a 6-1 decision in the final match of the day to make the score 19-13.
- Diego Sotelo continued his strong run with another win against Cornell in the first bout of the match against the Big Red. His 1-0 decision win over his opponent gave Harvard a quick 3-0 lead.
- Sotelo earned a massive upset win over No. 11 Brett Ungar with the result.
- Cornell would win the next three bouts, the first two coming by decision and the third being a major decision to give the Big Red a 10-3 advantage.
- It didn't take Trevor Tarsi long to pin his opponent at 157 lbs, giving Harvard six key points with a fall just 1:20 into the match. The pin cut the deficit to just one at the halfway point of the match.
- Cornell added back-to-back decisions and a fall to go on a 12-point run and take a 22-9 lead, clinching the match.
- Yaraslau Slavikouski finished the day unbeaten after registering a 8-2 decision victory in the final match of the day.
