Diego Sotelo Takes Home Third Place at the Midlands Tournament

EVANSTON, IL.. – Harvard Wrestling finished in tenth place at the Midlands tournament after an impressive weekend that the Crimson registered a score of 55.5 points over the two-day tournament. The Crimson had two impressive finishes including Diego Sotelo finishing in third place at 125-pounds and earning 23.0 team points. Yaraslau Slavikouski had second consecutive top five finish after placing fourth at 285-pounds. The senior earned 14.5 team points. 

What to Know

  • The Crimson had three upsets over the weekend. First Diego Sotelo defeated No. 19 Ryan Miller of Penn. Cael Berg defeated HM Dazjon Casto of Pittsburgh and Trevor Tarsi defeated HM Corbyn Munson of Central Michigan.
  • Yaraslau Slavikouski fourth place finish marks his second consecutive top five finish. The captain finished third at the Las Vegas Cliff Keen Invitational.
  • Diego Sotelo went 7-1 over the two-day tournament with wins over Arizona State, Harvard, Cleveland State, Penn, Lehigh, West Virginia and Rutgers. His only loss came against Michigan. 
  • Kenny Herrmann defeated Buffalo and Northwestern.
  • Cael Berg won three matches in a row after victories against Pittsburgh, Perdue and, George Mason.
  • Trevor Tarsi won four matches in a row after victories over Indiana, perdue, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan. 
  • Leo Tarantino had another successful weekend with wins over Cleveland State, Northern Illinois, and SIU Edwardsville.

Next Up

The Crimson return to Pennsylvania for its final tournament of the season at the Franklin and Marshall open. Following their return the program will open its dual schedule with a matchup against the University of North Carolina on Jan. 14.
