Women's Basketball to Host Two Ivy League Games this Weekend

Cambridge, Mass. - After a huge win over Princeton last weekend, the Harvard women's basketball team (8-5, 1-0 Ivy) will host Brown (7-6, 0-1 Ivy) on Friday, Jan. 6 at 6:00 p.m. followed by Yale (6-8, 0-1 Ivy) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+. 

What to Know

• Harvard women's basketball opened the Carrie Moore era this season with 7 nonconference wins and a win over Princeton to start the Ivy League campaign. Friday and Saturday will present the next two Ivy opponents for the Crimson in Brown and Yale.
• Moore is in Year 1 after the retirement of Kathy Delaney-Smith, who was at the helm of the Crimson program for 40 years. Moore was named The Kathy Delaney-Smith Head Coach For Harvard Women's Basketball on April 6, 2022, and arrived in Cambridge after spending the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Michigan, helping the Wolverines to a 25-7 record and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Moore also had assistant-coaching stints at North Carolina, Princeton and Creighton.
• Moore earned ESPN's Coach of the Week distinction for the week of January 2 after coaching the Crimson to their victory over Princeton and earning her first Ivy League win as a head coach. 
Harmoni Turner has enjoyed a career season so far this year, scoring a career-high 31 points in the season opener against URI, a career-high 9 assists against Boston College and a career high 7 steals against Maine. She has reported 20+ points in six games so far this season. Turner has garnered Ivy League Co-Player of the Week Honors twice, Ivy League Player of the Week once and was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament team.
• With Saturday's victory over Princeton, Harvard snapped the reigning Ivy League champions' 42-game Ivy League win streak and their seven-game win streak over the Crimson.
• Forbes and Turner each scored 17 points against the Tigers, leading the team in scoring. Lola Mullaney also scored points in the double digits with 12. Forbes led the team in field goal and three point percentage as well, as she connected on 7-of-12 field goals (58.3%) and 3-of-5 three pointers (60%).
• Every Crimson player who saw the court scored at least three points against Princeton.
• Harvard bested Princeton in nearly every metric, including rebounds (40-39), assists (15-11), blocks (4-2) and steals (9-2), amounting to a 67-59 victory for the Crimson.
Harmoni Turner leads the Ivy League in points per game with 18.6. Elena Rodriguez leads the Ivy League in field goal percentage with .696.
• Harvard is meeting Ivy League competitor Brown for the 92nd time in series history, one in which Harvard leads 58-34. The Crimson currently hold a 13-game win streak over the Brown Bears, winning every matchup since 2015. Harvard won the most recent game on Feb. 4, 2022 by 4 points, 77-73.
• Harvard will face off against Yale for the 88th time in series history, one in which Harvard leads 55-33. The Crimson split the 2021-22 season with the bulldogs, winning the most recent matchup on Feb. 5, 2022 65-59.
• With a win over Brown on Friday, Harvard will be starting Ivy League play 2-0 for the first time since the 2018-2019 season. With a third win over Yale on Saturday, Harvard would be starting Ivy League play 3-0 for the first time since the 2016-2017 season.
• Harvard's 2022-23 schedule featured 12 non-conference games before Ivy League play began on Dec. 31 against Princeton. With a 1-0 Ivy record and an 8-5 record overall, Harvard currently sits tied for second with Penn in the Ivy League standings.

Harvard will travel for their first Ivy League games on the road next weekend, facing off against Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 12 p.m. and Dartmouth on Monday, Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
