CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 17/18 Harvard continues its Ivy League schedule this week when it visits Princeton on Saturday (1 p.m. ET; NBC Sports Boston, NBC Sports Philadelphia, SNY, ESPN+). The contest marks the second road trip of the season for the Crimson, but the first outside of Massachusetts state lines.
- The Crimson is one of two undefeated teams in the FCS (No. 1/1 South Dakota State - 6-0) and one of 13 in all Division I (FCS and FBS). Harvard is also the only unbeaten Division I team in New England, which has 16 teams of its own.
- Harvard is in search of its first 6-0 start since 2015, when it opened with eight straight victories. The Crimson also opened 6-0 under Tim Murphy, The Thomas Stephenson Family Head Coach for Harvard Football, in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014 and the aforementioned 2015 campaign.Â
- Murphy enters the contest vs. the Tigers looking to set the Ivy League standard for most conference victories. He is currently tied with Carm Cozza (Yale) as both own 135 league wins.Â
- The Crimson comes into week as the Ivy League leaders, sitting at 2-0 in conference. Princeton finds itself in a six-way tie for second place. The clash features a contrast in styles as Harvard leads the Ivy in scoring (41.2; 6th nationally) and Princeton is second in scoring defense (15.0; 4th). The Crimson, in its own right, ranks third in scoring defense (20.4; 18th).
- Having won five straight to open the season, Harvard owns the second-longest active winning streak along with No. 16/6 South Dakota, No. 5/5 Incarnate Word, No. 19/17 UT Martin and No. 14/8 Western Carolina. The quintet trails South Dakota State's 20-game streak. The Crimson has also won eight consecutive games away from home, a streak that leads the nation.
- Harvard is coming off an impressive 48-7 victory over a Howard team that fell at Northwestern the week before, 23-20, and at Eastern Michigan in its season opener, 33-23. The 48 points marked a season high for the Crimson, which is averaging 44.5 points its last two outings.
- Harvard dispatched the Bison behind a career-high 120 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns from running back Isaiah Abbey. The sophomore, who started his first career game, became the first Crimson running back to rush for three TDs since Aidan Borguet in the 2022 opener vs. Merrimack College.
- The Crimson also received touchdowns from WR Scott Woods II (30-yard TD reception), RB Xaviah Bascon (7-yard TD reception) and QB Conor Easthope (19-yard TD run), who replaced starter Charles DePrima (11-17, 128 yds., 2 TD; 65 rush yds.) in the fourth quarter vs. the Bison.
- Bascon, who added a career-high eight carries and 46 yards on the ground, in addition to his first-career TD vs. Howard, was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday. Harvard has had at least one weekly award recipient in four of the season's five weeks.
- A pair of keys to Harvard's season so far has been winning the turnover battle and playing disciplined football, and both were on display vs. Howard. The Crimson was plus-3 in turnovers and committed just one penalty for five yards. Harvard currently ranks first in the nation in turnover margin (2.00), fumbles lost (0), fewest penalties (17), fewest penalties per game (3.40) and fewest penalty yards (170).
- The Harvard rushing attack has been potent, ranking third in the country (261.8 ypg). DePrima (103.4) and Shane McLaughlin (95.5), who rank No. 1-2 in the Ivy League (No. 9 and 15 nationally), have done their fair share of damage, but the ground game has also received contributions from Abbey (No. 11 in Ivy), among others. Against Howard, four players rushed for at least 28 yards (Abbey - 120, Malik Frederick - 78, DePrima - 65, Bascon - 46, Easthope - 28).
