No. 19 Football Travels to New York to Face Columbia on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 19/-- Harvard returns to the road for the second time in the last three weeks to face Columbia on Saturday. The 12:30 p.m. ET contest is set to air live on ESPN+.

- The Crimson bounced back from its only loss of the season by defeating Dartmouth, 17-9, at home last Saturday in front of an announced crowd of 22,515. The attendance figure was Harvard's largest in a non-Yale home game since at least 2009.

- With the victory over the Big Green, Tim Murphy, The Thomas Stephenson Family Head Coach for Harvard Football, won his 136th Ivy League contest, making him the Ivy's all-time leader in conference victories. The 30th-year head coach entered the Dartmouth contest tied with Yale's Carm Cozza.

- Harvard improved to 6-1 on the season (3-1 Ivy) thanks to a stellar defensive effort vs. Dartmouth. The unit did not allow a touchdown for the first time since Oct. 16, 2021, when it defeated Lafayette, 30-3. It also marked the first time the Crimson did not allow an Ivy opponent to cross the goal line since Oct. 10, 2015, when it earned a 40-3 win at Cornell.

- The Crimson heads to The Empire State sporting its best seven-game start to a season since the 2016 squad opened with an identical 6-1 mark.

- Harvard, which is celebrating 150 years of football, will be in search of its 900th victory in program history. The Crimson enters its clash with the Lions with an all-time mark of 899-410-50. Murphy has been at the helm for 198 of the 899 wins or for 22 percent of them.

- The Crimson is looking to start another road winning streak after it had its eight-gamer snapped two weeks ago at Princeton. The eight-game winning streak away from Harvard Stadium was tops in the nation. Despite the setback, the Crimson has been tough on the road in recent memory, going 10-2 at road venues since the end of the 2019 campaign.

- Sitting at 6-1 on the season, Harvard is one of nine teams in the FCS with one or fewer losses. The others are No. 1/1 South Dakota State (8-0), No. 6/5 Delaware (7-1), No. T-13/15 Florida A&M (7-1), No. 2/2 Furman (7-1) No. 4/8 Incarnate Word (7-1), No. 16/20 Lafayette (7-1), No. 3/4 Montana (7-1), and No. 9/12 North Carolina Central (7-1). Before its loss at Princeton, Harvard and South Dakota State were the last two undefeated teams at the FCS level.

- Entering the week with six victories, Harvard leads all New England teams (FBS, FCS, NFL) in wins despite beginning its season later than the rest. There are currently three New England teams with five wins (as of Oct. 30): Boston College (FBS), Holy Cross (FCS), Rhode Island (FCS).

- The Crimson rushing attack is one of the reasons why it is 6-1. When Harvard rushes for at least 200 yards, it is undefeated this season. Against Dartmouth, it racked up 235 yards, including a career-high 156 by Shane McLaughlin. As a team, the Crimson is averaging 230.3 yards an outing, a figure that is tops in the Ivy League and eighth nationally.

- The Harvard defense has done its fair share of taking the ball away this season and it was on display vs. Dartmouth. Safety Kaleb Moody recorded a sack and a forced fumble on the same play in the first quarter, which set up Harvard's first TD. Defensive back Phillip Smitherman, meanwhile, intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter with the Crimson clinging to a 14-6 lead. Harvard enters the week ranked third in the country in turnover margin (1.14) and 15th in interceptions (9). Both numbers also lead the Ivy League.
