Sailing Completes Three Weekend Regattas; Finishes First at Open ACC Round 1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard Sailing completed competition at a trio of regattas this weekend including a top-place finish at the Open Atlantic Coast Championships Round 1, hosted on the Charles River.  Additionally, the Crimson recorded another top-three finish at the Stu Nelson Trophy along with a seventh place finish at the Hewitt Trophy.  With their first-place finish at the Open ACC Qualifiers, the Crimson qualify for the Open Atlantic Coast Championship on October 21 and 22 in St. Mary's City, Maryland.  

Open Atlantic Coach Championship Round 1

Competing in two divisions, the Crimson recorded a total of 125 points to land atop the leader board at the Open ACC Qualifiers.  Harvard finished 27 points ahead of second-place squad, Stanford University.  Finishing first overall in the A-division with 54 total points, Lachlain McGranahan served as skipper alongside crew members Marbella Marlo and Matthew Cabot.  The A-division boat beat out University of Rhode Island by a single point.  Represented by skipper, Justin Callahan, and crew member, Kennedy Leehealey and Aidan Pesce, the Crimson finished second in the B-division with 71 points.  

Stu Nelson Trophy

The Crimson recorded their eighth top-three finish with a third-place result at the Stu Nelson Trophy in New London, CT.  Competing across three divisions, Harvard totaled 173 points to land behind only Stanford University and Yale University.  With skipper Cordelia Burn and crew member Margo Silliman, the Crimson finished fifth in the A-division with 70 points.  Posting 69 points in the B-divison, Sarah Burn and Lily Bartlett finished fourth in their respective division.  Registering the best result across all divisions for the Crimson, Zoey Ziskind and Emily Launderville's finished atop the C-division with 34 points.  

Hewitt Trophy

In their last of three regattas, the Crimson posted a seventh place finish at the Hewitt Trophy.  In the A-division Robby Meek, JJ Drummond, and Abigail Fennelly teamed up to register a regatta low, 18 points, to land in first.  Skipper James Bergstrom and crew member Kathleen Downey scored a 90 in the B-division.  

Next Up

The Crimson will return to the water next weekend for a pair of regattas including the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship in New Haven, CT.  Simultaneously, the Crimson will compete at the Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by Boston College.
