CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – Harvard fencing returns to Massachusetts on Wednesday, Nov. 15 to compete in the Beanpot. The Crimson will face-off against Boston College, Brandeis, and MIT. Brandeis is hosting the 2023 iteration of the Beanpot, and competition starts at 6:30. The event is streaming live on Brandeis' website.
WHAT TO KNOW:
- The women's team opened the 2023 season strong, going 6-1 at the Western Invitational. The Crimson picked up wins against Ohio State, UIW, Northwestern, Stanford, Air Force, and North Carolina. The lone loss was against three-time defending national champion Notre Dame.
- The men's team enters the Beanpot 5-2, beating UIW, UC San Diego, Stanford, Air Force and North Carolina.
- Harvard men's fencing has captured the Beanpot 14 years in a row, as the women's team has won the Beanpot 15 years in a row.
- In her Harvard debut at the Western Invitational, first-year women's foil fencer and 2020 Tokyo Olympian Jessica Guo impressed. The Toronto, Ontario native went a perfect 10-0 at the Air Force Academy.
- Fellow women's foil fencer Lauren Scruggs orchestrated a stellar showing in Colorado, going 19-2 and winning 14 matches in a row.
- The foil squad led the women in wins at the Western Invitational with 47.
- Men's foil fencer Andrew Chung tallied a team high 15 wins at the Western Invitational, suffering only three defeats in Colorado.
- Foil led the men's team in total victories with 44.
