Men’s Fencing Brings Home The Beanpot for 15th Straight Year

WALTHAM, MASS. – For a 15th consecutive season, Harvard men's fencing is bringing home the Beanpot. The Crimson pulled off convincing victories against Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brandeis, and Boston College. The Crimson tallied 44 total victories Wednesday night. First-year foil fencer Daniel Zhang opened his Harvard fencing career with a stellar 9-0 performance at the Beanpot.
 
Men's fencing began the tournament with a 17-10 win against MIT. Foil and saber each contributed six wins, while the epee squad tallied five against the Engineers. In his Harvard debut, Zhang went 3-0 against MIT. Fellow foil teammate and captain James Chen also went undefeated against the Engineers. Epee fencer Ark Ma brought in two wins in the first round of action. Matthew Linsky, Kevin Sohn, and Prash Subbiah all tallied two wins against MIT in Saber competition.
 
The Crimson moved to 2-0 at the Beanpot with a dramatic 14-13 win against tournament host Brandeis. Men's epee tallied a team-high seven wins against Brandeis, as Jonas Hansen went a perfect 3-0 and secured the win for the Crimson with an overtime victory against Ben Rogak. Zhang continued to find success at the Beanpot, posting a perfect record against the Judges.
 
Harvard closed the night out with a 17-10 win against Boston College. In saber competition, Linsky swept Boston College, earning three more wins. Foil went a perfect 9-0 against the Eagles, as Justin Liu, Andrew Chung, and Zhang all tallied three wins.
 
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Harvard men's fencing is now 8-2 this season.
