CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard fencing continues its NCAA national title defense at Tufts University on Sunday, Mar. 9, competing at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships. Admission is free of charge as the competition will serve as a qualification process for the 2025 NCAA Championships later this month.
WHAT TO KNOW:
- Harvard fencing last took part in collegiate competition at the 2025 Ivy League Fencing Championships.
- The Crimson women made history in Philadelphia, winning its first outright Ivy League title since 2009, marking the fifth conference title in school history.
- In her Ivy League Championships debut, sophomore Jessica Zi Jia Guo was truly dominant, posting a perfect 18-0 record to earn Ivy League Women's Foil Fencer of the Year and All-Ivy League First Team honors.
- A two-time Olympic medalist and an international star, senior Lauren Scruggs also garnered All-Ivy League First Team status after collecting a 16-2 record.
- Three Crimson women picked up All-Ivy League Second Team status, as sophomore Isabella Chin, sophomore Kaitlyn Pak, and junior Chloe Williams all garnered the honor.
- On the men's side, sophomore Daniel Zhang led the way with an 8-4 record, taking All-Ivy League First Team recognition in men's epee action. A semifinalist at the 2024 NCAA Championships, sophomore Henry Lawson earned Ivy League Second Team honors.
- At last season's NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, Harvard dazzled, setting up the national championship triumph in Columbus, Ohio by qualifying a full roster of 12 student-athletes.
- The Crimson return 10-of-the-12 student-athletes from last season's 2024 NCAA Fencing Championships.
- Harvard is led by head coach Daria Schneider, the first female head coach to win an NCAA fencing national championship.
- The Crimson's captains this year are Scruggs, Lawson, seniors Anthony Malysz and Emily Vermeule.
