Fencing Travels To Richmond For December NAC

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – Harvard fencers travel south this weekend, heading to Richmond, Va. for the USA Fencing December North American Cup. Competition begins on Friday, Dec. 1 and concludes on Monday, Dec. 4. Crimson student-athletes look to earn points toward national team qualification this weekend.
 
Women's saber and men's foil kicks-off the December NAC on Friday, Dec. 1 at 8 a.m. Sophomores Zoe Kim and Chloe Williams will each compete in women's saber action on day one of the December NAC. Kim earned a bronze medal at the October NAC in Orlando, Fla. Williams placed in the top-50 at the November NAC, placing 40th in Fort Worth, Texas. First-year men's foil fencer Daniel Zhang looks to capture back-to-back gold medals, taking first-place at the November NAC. Team captain James Chen will also compete at the December NAC, as the junior foil fencer impressed at the October NAC with a fifth-place finish.
 
Day two of the December NAC on Saturday, Dec. 2 sees six Crimson fencers on the strips in Richmond. Men's saber fencers Tommy Choi, Matthew Linsky, Kevin Sohn, and Prash Subbiah all compete on Saturday. Linksy won a Junior Saber Silver Medal at the November NAC, while Sohn also placed in the top-10 at sixth. Choi and Subbiah both finished 83rd and 165th at the November NAC.
 
Women's foil also sees team captain Annora Lee and Lauren Scruggs return to the NAC action. Scruggs last appeared at the October NAC, winning a bronze medal. Lee makes her NAC debut this year in Richmond.
 
On Sunday, Dec. 3, women's epee fencer Faith Park will represent the Crimson at the December NAC. Park placed in the top-50 at the November NAC, placing 47th. In her North American Cup opener in October, she placed 21st. Fellow epee fencer Isabella Chin will venture across the Atlantic for the Junior Women's Epee World Cup in Laupheim, Germany.

The December NAC concludes on Monday, Dec. 4 with men's epee. Crimson fencers Jonas Hansen, Owen Jin, Henry Lawson, and Mihir Kumashi will all compete on the final day of the December NAC. Hansen and Kumashi took part in last month's Men's Senior Epee World Cup in Switzerland. Hansen took 13th place while Kumashi finished in 235th. Lawson earned a Junior Epee Bronze Medal at the November NAC, while Jin placed 141st.
 
Harvard fencing returns to collegiate action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the St. John's Invitational.
