MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving completed its second day at the Minnesota Invitational on Thursday at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
What to Know
- Cole Kuster earned a spot in the A-final of the 500 freestyle after finishing in sixth place in the prelims with a season-best time of 4:23.19. In the championship round, the senior finished in fourth place overall, setting a new season-best with a time of 4:22.13.
- Shane Washart and Harris Durham secured lanes in the 500 free B-final with season-best efforts of 4:25.27 and 4:28.21, respectively. Both erased those season-bests in the finals with Washart completing the race in 4:24.79 (4th), and Durham finishing in 4:25.92 (5th).
- The Crimson trio of Filip Lanyi (4:29.78), Noah Brune (4:31.32) and Anders Aistars (4:31.32) all earned 500 free C-final berths after posting their best times of 2023-24 in the prelims. In the finals, Brune was the threesome's top finisher at 4:29.98, followed by Aistars (4:31.41) and Lanyi (4:31.86).
- Will Grant put up a new season-best time in the 200 IM, recording a prelim time of 1:45.50. His third-place performance moved him to the night session's A-final where he put up another season-best (1:44.26), finishing third overall. Both of Grant's times were NCAA B-standards.
- David Schmitt posted a season-best time of 1:49.93 in the prelims, which was good for 22nd overall and a spot in the C-final. The first-year then finished in fourth in the C-final with a new season-best performance of 1:49.67.
- The Crimson had two swimmers – Marcus Holmquist and David Greeley – qualify for the B-final of the 50 free after they finished in 14th (19.96) and 16th place (20.02), respectively. Both prelim times were their best in 2023-24. Then in the finals, Holmquist set a new season-best (19.76), while tying for first. Greeley, meanwhile, finished in eighth (20.22). Sonny Wang, additionally, was a C-final qualifier with a time of 20.25 and then posted a 20.27 in the night session.
- In the final event of the evening, Harvard's top-performing quartet of Baffico, Washart, Kuster and Schmitt finished the 200 free relay in 1:21.49, which was good for 10th place.
- On the diving side, Denny Gulia-Janovski was the Crimson's top performer on the three-meter board, posting a score of 311.20, which was good for fifth place.
