CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball junior guard,
Harmoni Turner, is out indefinitely after suffering a knee injury that will require surgery. Turner's injury occurred in the second quarter of the Crimson 66-80 loss to Michigan on Saturday, December 2.
Prior to the injury Turner was one of just four players in the country averaging at least 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game. Through the Crimson first seven games Turner ranked inside the top-30 of several national statistical categories. The junior guard was sixth in points (156), 11th in points per game (22.3), 20th in field goals made (54), and 30th in assists (35). Turner has already received a slew of accolades to open the season by being named Ivy League Player of the Week on November 20, Ann Meyers Drysdale USBWA National Player of the Week on November 21, and the 2023 San Diego Classic Tournament MVP following a strong two game stretch on November 24 and 25.
Speaking on Turner's injury,
Carrie Moore, the Kathy Delaney-Smith Head Coach for Harvard Women's Basketball, said, "It's a huge blow to lose Harmoni, as she is such a huge part of what we do as a team. Her productivity on the court speaks for itself, but her leadership and game experience are invaluable to our team. I am confident she will attack this rehab and come back better than ever. While this is adversity for our program, I believe in this team, and we will continue to work toward our goal of winning an Ivy championship.
