No. 2 Men’s Squash Victorious in Battle With No. 8 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 2 Harvard men's squash improved to 4-0 on the young season with a hard-fought victory over the No. 8 Virginia Cavaliers on the road. The Crimson came away with a 7-2 victory over the Cavaliers, defeating them on their home courts to secure a top-10 win.
 
Jacob Lin and Ishant Shah quickly made it 2-0 Crimson after posting wins at the fifth and ninth pairings. Lin was defeated in the first game but rallied back to win three straight games and improve to 4-0 in his first collegiate season. Shah won in similar fashion, dropping the first before rattling off three straight game wins.
 
David Costales stayed unbeaten in an absolute thriller at the top of the ladder. Costales and his opponent traded game wins, before he fell in the third. Facing a 2-1 deficit, Costales posted two convincing game wins of 11-1 and 11-4 to seal the win at the No. 1 pairing.
 
Omar Azzam continued his hot start, posting a 3-0 win at the fourth pairing to increase Harvard's lead to 4-0. Azzam outscored his opponent 33-17 to improve his individual record to 4-0. Liam Rotzoll clinched the win for the Crimson with a 3-0 victory at the seventh pairing. Rotzoll outscored his opponent 33-20 to seal the win for Harvard.
 
Denis Gilevskiy and Tate Harms picked up the last two victories for Harvard at the second and third positions, respectively. Both posted 3-1 wins to finish off the 7-2 victory for the Crimson.
 

UP NEXT

Harvard will take a brief pause from squash for the finals and holiday break before returning to action against MIT on Thursday, Jan. 11. The crosstown showdown will take place at MIT at 3:00 PM.
