HOFFMAN ESTATES, ILL. – A trio of Harvard wrestlers fought to top-eight honors at the 59
th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, as senior
Philip Conigliaro made history this weekend. The 174-pound wrestler from Dedham, Mass. registered the highest individual finish at the Midlands Championships in program history, taking second place in his weight class.

Diego Sotelo and sophomore 157-pound wrestler
Jimmy Harrington also secured top-eight finishes. Sotelo placed fifth in the 124-pound bracket, while Harrington took eighth in the 157-pound bracket.

As a team, Harvard recorded a ninth-place finish with 62.5 points, matching the 2006 team for the best finish at the Midlands Championships in program history.

Opening as the No. 6 in the 174-pound bracket in his 2023-24 season debut, Conigliaro began his march to the championship final with three straight wins against Cornell, Arizona State, and Cleveland State in the first session at the Midlands Championships. Conigliaro punched his ticket to the championship final with upset wins against No. 3 seed Adam Kemp from Cal. Poly and No. 2 seed Justin McCoy from Virginia in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Conigliaro is Harvard's first Midlands Championships finalist.

In the finals against top-seed Edmond Ruth from Illinois, Conigliaro came up just short, dropping the contest to Ruth to finish in second. A two-time NCAA Championships qualifier, Conigliario posted a 5-1 record in his first appearance of the 2023-24 campaign.

Sotelo locked up fifth place honors in the consolation bracket, defeating Northern Illinois in the fifth-place match via an 11-8 decision. A native of Plainfield, Ill., Sotelo leads the team in wins this season with 15, going 6-2 at the Midlands Championships.

Making his Midlands Championships debut, Harrington recorded an eighth-place finish in the 157-pound weight class. The Tyngsboro, Mass. highlighted his weekend with an upset victory against Rutgers in the consolation bracket. Harrington posted a 4-3 record this weekend.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- Three Harvard wrestlers placed at the Midlands Championships.
- As a team the Crimson placed ninth, matching the 2006 squad for the highest finish at the Midlands Championships in school history.
