Women’s Basketball Returns to Boston Area for Match Up with Boston University

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball will stay in the Boston area this weekend to take on crosstown opponent, Boston University on Saturday, December 9.  The Crimson will look to win its eighth straight against the Terriers as tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Case Gym and on NESN/ESPN+. 

What to Know

  • Harvard has begun their 2023-24 season and the second year under head coach Carrie Moore 5-4 with five strong victories and only falling to Maine and a trio of Power 5 opponents.
  • The Crimson most recently traveled to Orono, Maine to face off against University of Maine.  Harvard would ultimately drop the contest to the Black Bears, 61-79. 
  • Four Harvard players reach double digits against Maine, led by Lola Mullaney with 17 and followed by Abigail Wright with 12 and Elena Rodriguez and Karlee White each with 11. 
  • With her 17 points Mullaney surpassed Sharon Hayes '87 to become the No. 10 all-time leading scoring with 1,303 points and counting in her career.  The senior is the first Crimson player to break into the top-ten in all-time points since Christine Clark in 2014. 
  • White had a strong all-around game against the Black Bears by putting up a career-high 11 points, a team leading 7 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block.
  • Rodriguez had another all-around game by adding five rebounds and five assists to her 11 points.  Katie Krupa joined Rodriguez in leading the team with five assists in the contest. 
  • As Harvard pressured Maine for the entirety of the contest, White, Saniyah Glenn-Bello, and Krupa all grabbed three steals. 
  • As a team, the Crimson continue to rank atop the Ivy League in three-point percentage defense, holding its opponents to 26.5% shooting from beyond the arc.  The team also ranks second in scoring offense (72.3), assists per game (14.4), three-pointer made per game (7.1), and turnovers forced per game (17.0). 
  • In the first NET Rankings of the season, the Crimson checked in at No. 58.  The ranking is the highest NET in program history and ranks the Crimson 13 spots higher than the final poll of 2022-23. 
  • Mullaney is having a strong start to her senior campaign, averaging 15.1 points per game which ranks sixth in the Ivy League.  The senior leads the league in three-pointers made per game, averaging 2.89, and is third in three-point percentage, shooting 35.1%.  Nationally, Mullaney ranks 29th in three-pointers per game and 19th in total three-pointers made with 26. 
  • Rodriguez, who ranked first in the league in field goal percentage last year, is picking up right where she left off.  The junior is second in the Ivy League while shooting 54.2% through the team's first eight games.  Rodriguez also ranks fifth in assists (3.6), seventh in assist to turnover ratio (+1.2), seventh in blocks (1.0), and eighth in rebounding (6.3).
  • The Crimson season will consist of 13 nonconference matchups before it begins conference play on Saturday, January 6 against Yale. 
  • Wednesday's matchup will be the 38th installment in the series in which Harvard trails 22-15.  The Crimson currently hold a seven-game winning streak against the Terriers and will work to grow that streak on Saturday.
  • The last time the two teams meet, Harvard was victorious over BU, 73-58.

Following a nearly two weeklong break, Harvard will return to action as they head up north to take on UMass Lowell on Friday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Costello Athletic Center and on ESPN+.
