CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This weekend, No. 14 Harvard Men's Tennis will begin play at the ECAC Tournament against Brown in Hanover, NH on Friday, February 17 at 9:00 a.m. The tournament will take place from February 17 through February 19 as Harvard will enter as the top seed, as they will be looking to defend their title.
Dependent on the outcome against Brown, the Crimson will face either Cornell or Princeton on Saturday, February 18. Harvard matches will be streamed only if the Crimson face off against Dartmouth College.
What to Know
- The Crimson will be looking to defend their 2022 ECAC Championship. Harvard dominated last season, rolling through Brown and Princeton 4-0 in the first two rounds before downing Columbia, 4-2, in the championship.
- This weekend will be the first time Harvard faces an unranked opponent as they opened up the season against six teams ranked inside the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings top-25.
- The Crimson have started the season 4-2, defeating No. 21 NC State, No. 20 Duke, No. 21 Columbia, and T-No. 23 Northwestern. Harvard fell to No. 17 North Carolina and No. 4 Michigan.
- In their last time out, the Crimson battled with No. 4 Michigan, dropping a close 3-4 decision. Despite the loss, Harvard showed fight in the match by grabbing the doubles win and two singles win, including Harris Walker downing No. 16 Ondrej Styler (Michigan).
- In the most recent ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings the Crimson found themselves back in the top-15, landing at the No. 14 spot, rising from their previous ranking of No. 18.
- Along with the team rankings, singles and doubles rankings were released for the first time since November 16. For singles, both Henry von der Schulenburg and No. 13 Harris Walker moved their way up in the rankings with von der Schulenburg landing at No. 10 following a 3-0 start to the season, and Walker at No. 13 following a 4-1 start. The two singles rankings are the highest for a Harvard player since James Blake sat at No. 1 in 1999.
- Despite having not played together yet this spring, Ronan Jachuck and Daniel Milavsky sit at No. 35 in the doubles rankings.
- Jachuck and Steven Sun have teamed up for doubles play so far this season and the duo is an impressive 5-1 this season primarily at the No. 3 position.
