Sailing Registers a Pair of Top Two Finishes

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing competed at the Ivan Geiger Team Race and the St. Mary's Team Race Inter-Conference regattas this weekend, collecting a pair of top-two finishes.

At the Ivan Geiger Team Race hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Crimson finished second out of eight other northeast institutions.  Harvard was led by skippers Cordelia Burn, Marbella Marlo, and Sarah Burn and joined by crew members Emily Launderville, Margo Silliman, Ariel Wang, Lily Bartlett, Corinne Lee, and Daniella Bregman.

The Crimson went 13-4 on the weekend and were only bested in the overall leader board but Roger Williams University (RWU).  In both rounds, Harvard went 6-1, only dropping to the first-place finisher, RWU, in either round.  The Crimson were able to secure 1-2-3 finishes against three different opponents.

In the battle of the top-four schools, the Crimson went 1-2, defeating MIT and dropping races to RWU and Boston College.  Harvard's 12-2 performance in the first two rounds were enough to remain in second place on the weekend.

At the St. Mary's Team Race Inter-Conference regatta, the Crimson went 6-1, finishing second in the A-division, only falling below fellow Ivy foe, Yale.  Competing for Harvard were skippers Justin Callahan, Mitchell Callahan, Dylan Ascencios, and Lachlain McGranahan and crew members Eric Hansen, Kennedy Leehealey, Tyler Masuyama, Alexandra Dorofeev, Christopher Wang, and Grace Li

The Crimson looked strong in the A-division, finishing 1-2-5 in four races and 1-2-3 against St. Mary's University of Maryland.  Harvard and Yale competed in a sail off as the Bulldogs also sat at 6-1 on the day.  Yale defeated Harvard 1-3-6 to claim the top spot for the weekend.

With their pair of top-two finishes this weekend, the Crimson have now finished in the top-five in each of their six regattas to beginning the 2023 spring season.  Of the six regattas, five were top-two results.

Next Up

The Crimson will compete in three regattas next weekend, Saturday March 25 through Sunday March 26.  Harvard will travel to the Friis Trophy Team Race and the Duplin Trophy Team Race hosted by RWU and Tufts, respectively.  The Crimson will also host their third regatta of the year, the Team Race Invitational.
