CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior forward
Sean Farrell signed a three-year NHL contract with the Montreal Canadiens, forgoing his final year of eligibility at Harvard, the organization announced today (March 26).
Farrell was one of the most dynamic players in college hockey during his time in Cambridge. He was named one of 10 finalists for the 2023 Hobey Baker Award, leading the Crimson in scoring with 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists) in 34 games played. The ECAC Hockey and Ivy League Player of the Year, and a two-time ECAC Hockey Player of the Month selection, Farrell was just the third Harvard skater in the last 20 years to top 50 points, joining Jimmy Vesey (32-26-58 in 2014-15) and Dominic Moore (24-27-51 in 2002-03). He is currently second among all NCAA skaters averaging 1.56 points per contest.
In 2021, he was also one of the top point producers in college hockey, leading Harvard with 1.17 points per game, recording 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 24 games. An All-Ivy League Honorable Mention selection, Farrell represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, leading the team in scoring with six points (three goals, three assists).
Farrell finishes his Harvard career with 81 points (30 goals, 51 assists) in 58 career games. A native of Hopkinton, MA, Farrell was selected in the fourth round (124th overall) by the Canadiens in the 2020 NHL Draft.
