CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coming off a pair of ranked home wins last weekend, No. 10 Harvard Men's Tennis (17-5, 5-0 Ivy) will look to complete their Ivy season undefeated for the second straight season. The Crimson will travel to Pennsylvania and New Jersey for their regular season finale to take on No. 50 Penn (12-8, 4-1 Ivy) and No. 52 Princeton (15-12, 2-3 Ivy) on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
What to Know
- Opening their 2023 spring season with a slate of nationally ranked opponents and now closing in on their Ivy League title defense, Harvard has looked dominant this year, sitting at 17-5 overall and 5-0 in Ivy play.
- This past weekend, the Crimson picked up two crucial wins against No. 36 Cornell and No. 11 Columbia. First, Harvard swept No. 36 Cornell with ease, 4-0. The next day, facing off for the third time this spring, the Crimson stormed back against No. 11 Columbia to win, 4-3, to remain atop the conference standings.
- Ronan Jachuck had dominant performances this past weekend to help lift the Crimson to their two wins. Against, No. 11 Columbia, the junior registered a come from behind victory to clinch the match for Harvard.
- In the most recent ITA Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Team Rankings, Harvard moved back into the top-10, landing at No. 10 for the second time this season. The Crimson have now been inside the top-15 for 11 straight weeks.
- The Crimson were also represented in the updated singles and doubles polls this week. Henry von der Schulenburg led the charge coming in at No. 27 and Harris Walker followed at No. 35. Walker also sits at No. 62 in the doubles rankings with his partner Daniel Milavsky. The two are a dominant 8-2 in this season including 4-2 against ranked pairings.
- Harvard has been strong all season in doubles play having won the opening point in 16 of their 22 matches. Leading the way in wins is the duo of Jachuck and Steven Sun who are a remarkable 14-3 playing primarily at the No. 2 position.
- Walker leads the Crimson in singles wins with 14 so far this spring and 27 for the overall 2022-23 season. The senior currently sits with 98 career singles victories.
- The Crimson have three other players with double digit singles wins so far this season. von der Schulenburg and Valdemar Pape both have racked up 11 wins and Milavsky trails closely with 10.
For the Foes
- No. 50 Penn is 12-8 overall this season and 4-1 in league play. With their four wins and only loss to No. 11 Columbia, the Quakers sit second in the Ivy League standings.
- Last weekend, the Quakers went 2-0, picking up wins on the road against Yale and Brown.
- The Crimson have a commanding 82-13 lead in the all-time series over Penn and have won the previous two meetings between the squads. When the two teams met in 2022, Harvard swept the Quakers, 5-0.
- No. 52 Princeton is currently 15-12 this season and 2-3 in Ivy League competition. Since starting their conference schedule, the Tigers have defeated Brown and Yale.
- The Crimson holds a 60-46 lead in the all-time series against the Tigers including have won the last six matchups. When the two squads competed last season, Harvard came out on top, 5-2.
