Track and Field Wins Seven USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard Track and Field teams collected seven of the eight USTFCCCA Northeast Regional awards for the outdoor 2023 season, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday afternoon. Awards included men's and women's field athletes of the year, men's and women's track athletes of the year, women's assistant coach of the year and Head Coach Jason Saretsky as both the men's and women's coach of the year.

With each award being specific to the Northeast region, the Crimson swept the women's categories and took three of the four men's awards. With seven regional awards, Harvard had more than any other program in the nation in regional awards.

Men's and Women's Coach of the Year: Jason Saretsky
Saretsky, in his 17th year at Harvard, led both the Crimson men's and women's teams to the Ivy League team titles for the first time in Harvard History at the Ivy League Outdoor Championships. His men's team went on to finish 11th in the nation at the NCAA Championship meet and the women's team finished ninth.
 
The Ivy League Coach of the Year oversaw 17 Ivy League event champions and saw his athletes break 15 school records this season, four of which were Ivy League records as well. A program record three of his athletes were NCAA individual champions while eight athletes earned All-America honors. Ten athletes competed at the NCAA Championship meet.

Men's Track Athlete of the Year: Graham Blanks
Blanks, the NCAA Runner-up in the 5000m at the NCAA Championship meet, finished his season as a two-time All-American with his second place (5000m run) and sixth place (10,000m run) finishes at the outdoor championship meet. Earlier in the season, he set the Harvard and Ivy League record in the 5000m with a 13:24.91 at the Wake Forest Invite. He was the 2023 Ivy League champion in the 5000m and 10000m runs and won the NCAA East Preliminary round in the 5000m, finishing first in every 5000m run he competed in all year besides the championship, where he finished second.

Men's Field Athlete of the Year: Kenneth Ikeji
Ikeji, the NCAA Champion in the hammer throw, set Harvard, Ivy League and Texas facility record and a new collegiate lead with a 77.92m (255' 8") throw to win the championship meet. He was also the League champion in hammer throw and named the Ivy League most outstanding field performer. Throughout the season, he took first in eight of nine hammer throw competitions, coming in second at only one meet. After his outstanding performance at the NCAA Championship meet, he is the UK U23 Record holder in the hammer throw.
 
Women's Track Athlete of the Year: Maia Ramsden
The NCAA Champion in the 1,500m run, Ramsden set a Harvard and Ivy League record of 4:08.60. She also finished 18th at the NCAA Championship in the 5000m run, a race she set a Harvard record in 15:40.05 in at the NCAA East preliminary round. She was the Ivy League Champion in the 1500 and 5000m runs as well and was named Ivy League Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Year for her two conference victories.

Women's Field Athlete of the Year: Stephanie Ratcliffe
Harvard's first ever women's NCAA Champion in the hammer throw, Ratcliffe earned first team All-American honors when she set the Harvard, Ivy League, collegiate lead and Australian National Record in the hammer throw with her 73.63m (241' 7") throw at the NCAA Championship meet. She was the Ivy League champion in the hammer throw as well and won NCAA East preliminary round to advance to the championship meet. She had an undefeated season, finishing first in all 9 meets she competed in the hammer throw.

Women's Assistant Coach of the Year: Alex Gibby
Gibby, in his sixth year as associate head coach at Harvard, coached Ramsden to win the NCAA Championship in the 1500m run and finish 18th in the nation in the 5000m run. She was also the Ivy League champion in both events at the outdoor conference championship meet, where his athletes outscored all other Ivy League teams within the distance events, the 1,500m to 10,000m run with 39 points. The next closest was Columbia, with 28 points. Gibby coached seven athletes to qualify for the NCAA East preliminary round and had athletes break 2 Harvard and one Ivy League record.
