CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track & field concluded the opening weekend of the 2025-26 track & field season with a historic performance at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.
Sophomore
Harlow Tong added another school record to his resume, as the Saint Paul, Minnesota native won the 300m with a time of 33.07. Tong's mark is a new school record, surpassing the former top result of 33.67 ran by
Oliver Murcko '25 at the 2021 HBCU & Ivy League Challenge. Tong's time is also a new facility record at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Crimson opened the morning with a pair of top 10 finishes in the women's 300m. Sophomore Ella Cooper, fresh off a personal-best in the 60m at yesterday's HBCU & Ivy Challenge, took eighth place with a time of 39.24, as that mark ranks eighth all-time in school history. Fellow classmate Kaelin Creagh joined Cooper in the top 10, slotting into 10th place after posting a 39.69. Sophomore Abigail Dennis rounded out the Crimson's showing in the women's 300m, as the Maywood, New Jersey native finished in 15th place with a time of 40.33.
- History arrived for the Crimson in the men's 300m, as Tong set a new school and Boston University Track & Tennis Center facility record with a time of 33.07. Along with Tong, sophomore Liam Acevedo also shined in the men's 300m, taking second with a time of 33.88. Hailing from Franklin, Ohio, Acevedo's mark ranks seventh all-time in program history. Two more Crimson also took part in the men's 300m, as sophomore Brayden Chavez finished in 20th place after running a 35.88, while senior Reuben Henry-Daire posted a 36.13 to finish in 22nd.
- Harvard opened its distance portion of the afternoon with the women's 3000m, as first-year Dylan McElhinney finished in 47th place with a 9:45.94 in her collegiate track & field debut. A native of New York, New York, McElhinney was an All-Region selection during the cross country season.
- Over in the men's side of the 3000m, first-year Benjamin Bouie also made his college track & field debut at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, as the Sunnyvale, California crossed the finish line in 8:08.43 to take 47th place.
- A four-time All-American in the 800m, junior Sophia Gorriaran began her year on the track in the women's mile invite at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, as the Providence, Rhode Island native finished in second place. Gorriaran's personal-best time of 4:32.94 ranks third all-time in school history.
- One of Harvard's team captains in cross country, junior Charlie Ortmans returned to the track with a 22nd place finish in the men's 5000m, posting a time of 13:38.05 in the process. Ortmans now ranks fifth all-time in the men's indoor 5000m in school history.
- Two Crimson hurdlers also made appearances at the Harvard Classic. Senior Fabiola Belibi finished in second in the women's 60 hurdles with a time of 8.48, as junior Simon Weiser took fourth place in the men's 60 hurdles after sprinting an 8.21.
