CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard Men's Volleyball returned to the court in 2023 free of health and safety protocols for the first time since early in the 2020 campaign. The Crimson played a difficult non-conference schedule before stepping into EIVA action. After navigating the regular season, Harvard found itself competing at the EIVA tournament for the second straight season, a feat that had not been accomplished since 2015-16.
Individually, the Crimson was led by returning All-American
Ethan Smith and sophomore
James Bardin. Prior to the campaign, the duo was named Harvard's Players to Watch by the EIVA. By season's end, Smith was named to the All-EIVA Second Team after hitting a team-best .394. The junior finished with 130 kills, ranking third on the team behind first-year
Zach Berty (202) and sophomore
Kade McGovern (189). Bardin, meanwhile, finished the year with 682 assists. Defensively,
Trevor Schultz led the Crimson with 73 blocks with Smith recording 63 of his own.
In the classroom, Harvard was outstanding as 12 players captured Academic All-EIVA honors, positioning itself once again to be recognized in July by the AVCA.
The Crimson now turns its focus to 2024 and is slated to return its top five leaders in kills and its top six leaders in blocks, while integrating a talented first-year class.
