Blanks is NCAA Runner-Up in the 5000m Run, Men’s Team Finishes 11th

AUSTIN, Texas – On day three of competition at the NCAA outdoor track and field championship meet, Graham Blanks brought home his second first team All-American placing of the meet, finishing as the national runner-up in the 5,000m run and Izzy Goudros competed in the first four of seven events in the heptathlon. With Blanks and Kenneth Ikeji's points over two days of competition, the men's team finished in 11th, their highest finish since 1964.

An 11th place team finish is the Crimson's third best of all time, as their only previous finishes in the top-11 came in 1961, when the team placed 10th, and 1964, when they tied for 11th. With 21 points this year, Harvard tied the Virginia Cavaliers for their 11th place finish.

Blanks scored 11 of the team's 21 points after finishing second in the 5,000m run combined with his sixth place finish in the 10,000m run. With his second All-American honor of the outdoor season, Blanks has been top-16 in the nation in four events in the indoor and outdoor track and field season and in the cross country season as well. His second place finish to end the year is his best of the season at the national championship meet and marks his third top-six finish of the 2022-23 season.

Harvard Championship Results

• Blanks raced his 5,000m race similar to the 10,000m run just two nights ago, staying in step with the leading pack of runners for the first 4,000 meters of the race and pulling away with the leaders in the final few laps. He moved into fifth gear in the final 200 meters of the race, making up the final few places to take home the silver medal in 14:06.53.
• After four of the seven events in the heptathlon, Goudros sits in 20th place with 3311 points. The Harvard and Ivy League record holder in the event started the day with a 14.09 in the 100m hurdles that finished 17th of the competitors in Austin. She went on to set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.63 meters (5' 4.75") and to throw 10.66 meters (34' 11.75") in the shot put. She closed out her first day of competition with a 23.79 in the 200m dash to finish sixth in the final event of Friday.
