Women’s Basketball Set to Continue League Play against Princeton, Brown

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball (8-6, 1-0 Ivy) will remain home for consecutive games for the first time in 2023-24 as the program welcomes the four-time reigning Ivy champions in the Princeton Tigers (11-3, 1-0 Ivy) to Cambridge.  The contest that will serve as the rematch of the 2023 Ivy Tournament championship game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. from Lavietes Pavilion and on ESPN+.  Week two of conference play will continue just two days later as the Crimson travels to Providence, Rhode Island to take on Brown (10-4, 1-0 Ivy).  Tip-off on Monday is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center and on ESPN+.

What to Know

  • Harvard began its 2023-24 season and the second year under head coach Carrie Moore with 13 non-conference matchups, standing at 7-6 heading into league play.  Through the out-of-conference slate the Crimson tallied six strong victories over Boston College, Quinnipiac, UMass, North Dakota State, SMU, UMass Lowell, and Delaware and falling only to Maine, BU, URI and a trio of Power 5 opponents.
  • In its last time out, the Crimson pushed Carrie Moore's Ivy opener record to 2-0 as the squad downed Yale, 73-54 in front of its home fans.
  • Harmoni Turner made her return to the court having going down with a knee injury, that would later require surgery, on December 2.  In her comeback, Turner scored a team-high 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field, including registering the first 10 Crimson points.  The junior added three rebounds, three assists, and a season-high five steals to prove she has not missed a beat.
  • With her impressive stat line against the Bulldogs, Turner earned the first Ivy League Player of the Week honors of the conference season and her second of the year.
  • Katie Krupa and Abigail Wright joined Turner in double digits by each adding 12 points.  Krupa and Wright were automatic against the Bulldogs, shooting 83.3 percent and 75 percent, respectively, from the field.
  • In her last two games Krupa has missed just one field goal, combining for 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting against Delaware and Yale.
  • Saniyah Glenn-Bello and Gabby Anderson both had strong performances in the Ivy opener, contributing an identical eight points and a team-leading five rebounds.
  • The Crimson played lockdown defense throughout the contest, forcing 20 Yale turnovers and corralling 15 steals.
  • Harvard outrebounded the Ivy foe, 38-34.  In the seven games this season that the Crimson has won the rebounding battle, it is a near perfect 6-1.
  • As a team, the Crimson shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the field and 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc.
  • Elena Rodriguez, who had a breakout season last year, continues to be dominant presence all-around for the Crimson.  The junior is averaging 12.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game through the first 14 contests.  In 2023-24, Rodriguez has scored in double figures 10 times and has led the team in rebounding and assists in nine and eight games, respectively.  While shooting 53.7 percent from the field, Rodriguez ranks first in the Ivy League, a title which she held at the end of last season.
  • Lola Mullaney is out to a hot start in her senior season by currently averaging 14.4 points and career bests in rebounds (3.9), assists (2.1), and steals (1.4) through the first 14 games.  In the month of December, Mullaney averaged 17.5 points per game on 43.0 percent shooting.  The senior is currently sitting with 254 career three-pointers and is on pace to break the Harvard women's basketball three-point record by averaging 2.6 threes per game.
  • With five field goals against UMass Lowell, Mullaney cracked the Harvard women's basketball top-10 with 470 career field goals. The senior now has 479 made field goals throughout her four years and will continue to climb the top-10 list throughout 2023-24.
  • The Crimson first-years have made an immediate impact this season with Mary Hollensteiner, Karlee White, and Abigail Wright all having appeared in each of the team's first 14 games.  Hollensteiner has proven her shooting abilities early and led the team in scoring in their win over Quinnipiac.  White has started 13 games for the Crimson and has begun to blossom on both the offensive and defensive ends.  Lastly, Wright averages nearly 18 minutes a game and is contributing 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per appearance.
  • In the Ivy League the Crimson ranks second in points per game (71.9), assists (14.6), steals (8.2), three-point field goals (7.4), and three-point percentage (32.6 percent) and third in field goal percentage (43.1 percent).
  • Not allowing its opponents to have the same success from behind the three-point arc, the Crimson ranks first in the league in three-point percentage defense, holding its opponents to 28.6 percent from three.
  • Saturday's match up will be the 94th all time between the Crimson and the Tigers.  Princeton currently holds a 51-42 advantage over Harvard in the all-time series.
  • Last season, despite dropping the final two matchups, the Crimson defeated the Tigers on its home court to snap their 42-game conference win streak.  Ultimately, the Crimson were just one of two conference losses that the Tigers sustained all season.
  • Harvard holds a dominant, 60-34 lead in the all-time series against the Brown Bears.  The Crimson was able to add two wins against the foe last season to up its win streak over Brown to 15.
