CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ahead of its 2024 season, Harvard softball welcomes Melanie Mandell to its coaching staff as a new assistant coach. A graduate of Middlebury College, Mandell brings extensive knowledge of data analytics and playing expertise to head coach Jenny Rohn's coaching staff.
 
A four-year starter at Middlebury, Mandell produced a historic career in the outfield during her college years. At the time of her graduation, Mandell held the Middlebury record for career batting average (.410), shared the program record for home runs (14), and was second in career doubles (48).
 
In 2019, Mandell earned New England Small College Athletic Conference Play of the Year honors after posting a .464 batting average, 17 doubles, and driving in 34 runs. A native of Harrison, N.Y., Mandell garnered First-Team All-NESCAC honors three times and First-Team All-Region honors twice.
 
During her college career, Mandell gained valuable experience through a pair of internships. In the summer of 2018, Mandell worked with the New York Mets as a business intelligence and analytics intern, helping dissect ticketing data for the franchise. The next summer Mandell served as a business intelligence intern for Major League Baseball Advanced Media, helping convert MLB's mobile data to Amazon Work Solutions.
 
Prior to her arrival to Harvard, Mandell held roles at local organizations SmarterTravel and Boston Consulting Group. In her positions, Mandell was responsible for various analytical duties and revenue optimization.
