Rémi Drolet placed third in the men's 7k skate to lead the nordic team, and seniors
Liam McNamara and
Elsie Halvorsen each came in 26
th place in the giant slalom on the alpine side as Harvard University skiing opened competition on day one of the Colby Carnival on Friday with Colby College serving as the event host.
In nordic competition at Quarry Road, Drolet paced the Crimson with his third-place finish in the men's 7k skate while first-year
Sam Gallaudet followed in 37
th place. Drolet has tallied top-three finishes in each of the first three events of the carnival season. On the women's side, junior
Quincy Donley led Harvard with a 35
th-place finish.
On the alpine side at Sugarloaf, McNamara led the men's side with a 26
th-place finish in the giant slalom while Halvorsen notched a 26
th-place finish of her own in the women's giant slalom as Harvard's alpine team competed for the first time this season.
As a combined team following day one competition, Harvard stands in 11
th place with a team score of 150.
Harvard will close out the Colby Carnival tomorrow – Saturday, Jan. 20 – with the 20k classic on the nordic side and the slalom on the alpine side.
Harvard Highlights: Nordic
- Senior Rémi Drolet placed third in the men's 7.5 skate with a time of 16:52 for 44 EISA points and 60 NCAA points. He has tallied top-three finishes in each of the first three events of the season after notching a pair of top-three finishes at the UVM Carnival last weekend.
- First-year Sam Gallaudet came in 37th place behind a time of 18:31, collecting 13 EISA points.
- Junior Quincy Donley paced the women's side, coming in 35th in the women's 7.5k skate with a time of 21:54, posting 14 EISA points.
- Following Donley, sophomore Hayden McJunkin placed 43rd (22:12, 11 EISA points), and first-year Breagh Bridge finished 51st (22:25, 8 EISA points).
- In the nordic team scores, the men placed seventh while the women came in 11th.
Harvard Highlights: Alpine
- Senior Liam McNamara placed 26th in the men's giant slalom behind a time of 1:46.06 with a 53.85 on his first run and a 52.21 on his second run. He collected 18 EISA points and five NCAA points.
- Senior Elsie Halvorsen also registered a 26th-place finish in the women's giant slalom with a time of 1:49.07. She posted a 53.81 in run one and a 55.26 on run two. Halvorsen recorded 19 EISA points and five NCAA points.
- Junior Matt Ryan came in 40th place (1:47.81) with a 54.66 in run one and a 53.15 in run two for 11 EISA points.
- In his collegiate carnival debut, first-year Josh Rosenberg finished 45th (1:48.45) with a 54.71 in run one nad a 53.7 in run two.
- In the alpine team scores, the men and women finished 11th and 12th respectively.

Harvard will close out the Colby Carnival tomorrow – Saturday, Jan. 20 – with the 20k classic on the nordic side and the slalom on the alpine side.
Harvard's alpine team will then compete at the UVM Carnival from Jan. 26-27 at Stowe in Stowe, Vermont.
Following the conclusion of the UVM Carnival, both the nordic and alpine sides will take part in the Harvard Carnival from Feb. 2-3 (ESPN+) with nordic events at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Craftsbury, Vermont and alpine events at Burke in Burke, Vermont.
