CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the first time this season, Harvard fencing will host dual meets at the Malkin Athletic Center. On Friday, Jan. 26, the Crimson welcome Atlantic Coast Conference foe Duke, with the men's team competing at 4 p.m., while the women take on the Blue Devils at 6 p.m. Two days later, New York University makes the trip to Cambridge on Sunday, Jan. 28, as the women compete at 11:30 a.m., with the men taking the strip at 1:30 p.m.
Admission to the Malkin Athletic Center is free of charge and Crimson fans can catch all the action from both dual meets live on ESPN+.
WHAT TO KNOW:
- After a two-month break from collegiate competition, Harvard returned to the strip at the St. John's Invitational, facing some of the top fencing programs in the country.
- The women's team went 3-2 on the weekend, earning victories against Penn State, Ohio State, and tournament host St. John's, improving its season record to 12-3.
- The men's squad recorded a pair of victories, defeating Penn State and St. John's, as the men are 10-5 on the year.
- In a thrilling display of excellence and dominance, the women's foil team logged a staggering 37-8 record, the most wins by a single Harvard weapon at the St. John's Invitational in the last five years.
- First-Year women's foil fencer Jessica Zi Jia Guo posted a 14-1 record at the St. John's Invitational, while junior women's foil fencer Lauren Scruggs went undefeated in her hometown with 12 victories.
- On the men's side, the epee squad led the way, going 28-17 at the tournament.
- Senior epee fencer Jonas Hansen and first-year epee fencer Henry Lawson each earned 11 victories.
- Scruggs, the defending NCAA Women's Foil National Champion, leads the women's team in wins with 39.
- Hansen, the defending NCAA Men's Epee National Champion, leads the men's team in victories with 28 this year.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
- Duke's women's team brings a 15-3 record to Cambridge, as the men's team is 8-7. The Blue Devils last competed at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20 and Sunday, Jan. 21.
- NYU's women's team holds a 5-9 record, while the men's team is 9-6 on the year. The Violets last took the strip at the Philadelphia Invitational.
