CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In front of the home crowd at the Malkin Athletic Center, Harvard men's fencing defeated Atlantic Coast Conference foe Duke in its home opener, 16-11. Men's foil led the way to a Crimson victory, accounting for a team-high six wins.
On his senior night, defending NCAA Men's Epee National Champion
Jonas Hansen gave it his all against the Blue Devils, going a perfect 3-0. Hansen was the only to Crimson fencer to go undefeated while fencing all three bouts, logging a touch differential of +8.
Foil starters
Daniel Zhang, James Chen, and
Justin Liu each earned two wins against Duke. Zhang, a first-year fencer from Belmont, Mass. and a standout in the junior international circuit, posted the highest touch differential among the foil crew (+6).
Saber action saw the first-year duo of
Kevin Sohn and
Tommy Choi each account for two wins, as fellow first-year
Prash Subbiah earned a win in the third round against Duke. Choi posted a team-high +10 touch differential in the victory against Duke.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- Hansen led the Crimson in victories against Duke with three. The defending NCAA Men's Epee Champion has a 31-12 record this season, leading Harvard in victories.
- A native of Belmont, Mass., Choi recorded a team-high +10 touch differential in the 16-11 win against Duke.
- Foil led all men's weapons in wins with six, as each starter earned two victories.
