CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With the first day of the singles and doubles main draws of the ITA New England Regionals beginning this morning in Cambridge, the Crimson looked dominant, posting 11 wins across 14 matches.
To start the day, Harvard had four victorious tandems in doubles action, led by the No. 84 nationally ranked duo and two-seed
Masato Perera and
Benjamin Privara blanking Matthew Carlson and Ezequiel de la Plaze (Holy Cross), 8-0.
James MacDonald and
Valdemar Pape followed closely behind with an 8-1 result over Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun Simo (Quinnipiac).
Melchior Delloye and
Mitchell Lee and
Rohan Murali and
Elisha Thornton provided the last two doubles victories for Harvard, posting 8-3 and 8-6 decisions, respectively.
Moving into singles, the Crimson registered seven additional victories. Perera, Privara, Pape, and Lee each downed their opponents in straight sets. Pape recorded the highlight win of the day, dropping the seventh-seeded Rodrigo Fernandes (Cornell) in dominant fashion while dropping just three games.
Murali,
Marc Ktiri, and Delloye collected the final victories of the day, each battling through three-set matches to advance to the round of 32.
