PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving opened the 2024-25 campaign with a 164-136 road win over Brown on Friday afternoon. The Crimson moved to 1-0 (1-0 Ivy League), while the Bears dropped to 0-1 (0-1 Ivy).
How it Happened
- Alexandra Bastone posted the Crimson's first win of the afternoon when the sophomore emerged victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:03.44. Bastone outpaced the field by more than 13 seconds as the second-place finisher, Brown's Dana Li, finished in 10:16.52. Later in the day, Bastone won the 500 free in comfortable fashion, posting a time of 4:51.62, which was more than six seconds faster than the runner-up.
- Sydney Lu topped the eight-swimmer field in the 100-yard free, completing the event in 51.09. The junior also won the 100 butterfly, with a time of 54.78.
- Stephanie Iannaccone picked up her first win of the season, edging teammate Gabriella Augustyn in the 200 breaststroke. Iannaccone touched the wall in 2:16.48, with the first-year finishing a tad behind, clocking in at 2:16.54. Iannaccone later captured the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.86.
- Elizabeth Miclau and Nina Janmyr combined to sweep the diving events. Miclau paced the three-meter diving field with a score of 301.95, with Janmyr posting a winning one-meter score of 287.63.
- Miclau led a three-meter diving group that finished with four of the top five scores. Remi Edvalson was second (291.60), Janmyr came in fourth (280.13) and Ennika Carlson placed fifth (268.88).
- On the one-meter board, the Crimson took the top four spots. In addition to Janmyr's winning performance, Amy Wotovich was second (284.63), Edvalson finished in third (284.10) and Miclau was fourth (279.90).
- In the final event of the day, Harvard won the 400 free relay (Molly Hamlin, Mandy Brenner, Kaylee McDonald, Bastone) with a time of 3:23.88.
