Women’s Swimming and Diving Finishes Competition at Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving wrapped up its time at the Minnesota Invitational on Saturday. The Crimson competed in platform diving for the first time this season and was able to hit a couple of NCAA B-standards in the swimming events.

In the team standings, Harvard finished in third place with 897.50 points, trailing only ninth-ranked California (1,873.50) and No. 23 Minnesota (1,390). Denver (795.50), Rutgers (702.50) and UNLV (559) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

How It Happened in the Prelims

  • Molly Hamlin opened the day for the Crimson by securing a spot in the A-final of the 200 back following her fourth-place time of 1:57.36. Giulia Viacava made the B-final after posting a 2:02.35, while Anya Mostek (2:02.40) and Payton Foster (2:02.59) punched their C-final tickets.
  • Blythe Wieclawek guaranteed herself a spot in the B-final of the 100 free after she registered a time of 50.37. Kristín Helga Hákonardóttir and Mandy Brenner earned C-final invitations after they finished 50.95 and 51.14, respectively.
  • Stephanie Iannaccone qualified for the top heat of the 200 breast after she finished in seventh with a time of 2:14.25. Gabriella Augustyn (2:15.07) and Aleksandra Denisenko turned in the 10th- and 13th-fastest times in the field to make the B-final. Grace Yoon, meanwhile, completed the race in 2:21.67 to advance to the C-final.
  • Sydney Lu was one of three Crimson swimmers to make the finals of the 200 fly. The junior had the ninth-best time (2:01.14) to become the top seed in the B-final. Lu was joined in the B-final by Kenzie Padilla, who finished in 2:02.39. Kaylee McDonald, meanwhile, earned her way to the C-final with a time of 2:06.84.

How It Happened in the Finals

  • Harvard boasted four of the top six divers on the platform. Samantha Holtz finished second, posting a score of 250.95, and was followed in third by Remi Edvalson (250.90). Nina Janmyr (243.90) and Elizabeth Miclau (241.00), meanwhile, came in fifth and sixth, respectively.
  • Bastone finished in fifth place in the finals of the 1,650 free and in the process hit the NCAA B-mark with a time of 16:35.70. Robin Cruz-Abrams also competed and finished 19th (18:09.97).
  • Hamlin set a season-best in the A-final of the 200 back, clocking in at 1:56.78 to finish in fourth place. The senior just missed an NCAA B-standard, falling 0.07 seconds short. Viacava came in eighth in the B-final (2:03.03), while Mostek (season-best 1:57.93) and Foster (season-best 2:00.81) went 1-2 in the C-final.
  • Wieclawek posted a season-best time of 50.12 in the B-final of the 100 free to finish sixth. Hákonardóttir (51.08) and Brenner (52.32) came in third and eighth, respectively, in the C-final.
  • Iannaccone set a season-best in the A-final of the 200 breast, recording a time of 2:14.05 (7th place). Denisenko posted her best time of the season in the B-final (2:14.10) to finish in fourth; Augustyn came in seventh (2:15.72). Yoon finished in sixth in the C-final after a season-best 2:20.37.
  • Lu won the B-final of the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.71, which gave her an NCAA B-time. Padilla, meanwhile, came in sixth place (2:04.00).
  • In the final event of the invitational, Harvard finished in third place in the 400 free relay. Lu, Hamlin, Wieclawek and Bastone completed the race in a Crimson season-best 3:20.24.

Harvard returns to action on Jan. 9, when it competes at Hawai'i with Arkansas. The meet is slated for a 9 p.m. ET start.
