NEW YORK, N.Y. – On a dramatic and thrilling final day of the 2024 Ivy League Championship, Harvard men's fencing earned a share of the Ivy League title, capturing the hardware for a second straight season and for the 13
th time in program history.
At the past four Ivy League Championships, Harvard men's fencing has won the Ivy League title three times.
Day one of the tournament saw Harvard earn a critical 15-12 win against Princeton and drop a 15-12 result against Columbia.
The Crimson started day two strong, staying in the title hunt with a 17-10 win against Penn. Men's epee came up clutch against quakers, leading all weapons in the match with a 7-2 record. Senior
Jonas Hansen and junior
Mihir Kumashi both went 3-0 against Penn.
Harvard secured a share of the Ivy League title with a 16-11 win against Yale. The men's foil trio of
James Chen, Daniel Zhang, and
Justin Liu were critical in the title-deciding match against the Bulldogs, combing for a 7-2 record. In men's epee, first-year
Henry Lawson aided Harvard's march to the title with a perfect record against Yale.
In the individual standings, Hansen captured the Ivy League men's epee crown, tallying a joint tournament-high in victories with a 10-2 record. Hansen also led all Harvard epee fencers in touch differential with a +15 margin.
Hansen was joined on the All-Ivy League first team by Chen, who led all Harvard fencers in touch differential with a +21 touch differential, and epee teammate Lawson who posted a 8-4 record on the weekend.
A pair of Harvard fencers earned Second Team All-Ivy League honors as well. Kumashi earned a spot on the epee team, while sophomore
Matthew Linsky garnered a spot on the saber team.
