CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball (14-9, 7-3 Ivy) will conclude its three-game home stretch this weekend as they face off against Brown on Saturday, February 24. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Lavietes Pavilion and on ESPN+. Prior to the start of action, the Crimson will honor its two seniors,
Lola Mullaney and
Kennedy Heath.
What to Know
- Harvard began their 2023-24 season and the second year under head coach Carrie Moore with 13 non-conference match ups, standing at 7-6 heading into league play. Through the out of conference slate the Crimson tallied six strong victories over Boston College, Quinnipiac, UMass, North Dakota State, SMU, UMass Lowell, and Delaware and falling only to Maine, BU, URI and a trio of Power 5 opponents.
- As the end of the Ivy League regular season draws near, the Crimson currently sit with an overall record of 14-9 and 7-3 conference record, sitting at No. 3 in the league standings.
- The Crimson opened up its second back-to-back weekend of the season with a dominant, 74-51, win over Cornell on Friday.
- The Crimson were led by Harmoni Turner's 19 point and 12 rebound double-double performance. The junior shot 9-of-18 from the field while also leading the team in assists with five.
- Katie Krupa followed closely behind with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
- Abigail Wright reached double figures for the seventh time in her career by contributing a career-high tying 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Wright registered nine of her 13 points as she exploded for nine straight Crimson points in the middle of the third quarter.
- While up just seven at the half, the Crimson used a near 30-point third quarter to break away from the Big Red. In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Harvard shot 80% from the field by going 12-for-15.
- As a team the Crimson shot 53.3% from the field throughout the contest while holding the Big Red to 29.0% shooting.
- Harvard received contributions from their entire lineup as each player contributed at least three points in crucial minutes.
- To close out the weekend, Harvard faced off against Columbia in a nationally televised battle, falling 63-71.
- Katie Krupa continues to provide standout performances for the Crimson as she led in scoring with a career-high tying 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from deep.
- Lola Mullaney (14) and Harmoni Turner (11) each joined Krupa in double figures.
- The contest was a back-and-forth struggle as no team held a lead larger than four prior to the fourth quarter.
- The Crimson shot 44.3% from the field and 33.3% from distance throughout the game.
- With two steals against the Lions, Turner moved into top-five all-time for career steals with 172 and counting.
- Harmoni Turner continues to lead the way for the Crimson as the junior currently ranks second in the league in points per game (18.9), second in steals (1.9), and fourth in assists (4.1). All in the last few games, Turner has broken into the top-five all-time in steals as well as the top-10 in assists and field goals.
- Rodriguez, who had a breakout season last year, continues to be dominant presence all-around for the Crimson. The junior is averaging 11.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game through the first 18 contests. In 2023-24, Rodriguez has scored in double figures 12 times and has led the team in rebounding and assists in 12 and 10 games, respectively. While shooting 55.1% from the field, Rodriguez ranks first in the Ivy League, a title which she held at the end of last season.
- Mullaney is performing at a high level in her senior season by currently averaging 13.4 points and career bests in rebounds (3.7), assists (1.9), and steals (1.1) through the first 23 games. The senior currently stands with 263 career three-pointers and sits No. 2 all-time in Harvard history for career three-pointers made.
- The Crimson first-years, Mary Hollensteiner, Karlee White, and Abigail Wright, all have made an immediate impact this season. Hollensteiner has proven her shooting abilities early and led the team in scoring in their win over Quinnipiac. White has started 13 games for the Crimson and has begun to blossom on both the offensive and defensive ends. Lastly, Wright averages 18 minutes a game and is contributing 6.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per appearance.
- In the Ivy League the Crimson rank second in assists (14.5) and third in scoring (69.4), field goal percentage (43.3%), three-point percentage (31.7%), and three-point field goals (6.8).
- Not allowing its opponents to have the same success from behind the three-point arc, the Crimson rank first in the league in three-point percentage defense, holding its opponents to 28.2% from three.
- The Crimson will look to keep its 16-game winning streak against the Bears alive and once again sweep the series. Harvard holds a 61-34 advantage over Brown in the all-time series.
- In their first meeting this season, the Crimson downed the Bears, 73-59 on Saturday, January 15, 2024.
