Skiing Wraps Up 2024 Harvard Carnival, Drolet Wins 7.5k Skate

CRAFTSBURY, Vt. and BURKE, Vt. – Senior Rémi Drolet won the men's 7.5k skate, junior Matt Ryan came in 10th in the men's slalom, senior Elsie Halvorsen placed 12th in the women's 7.5k skate, and junior Quincy Donley finished 20th in the women's 7.5k skate as Harvard University skiing wrapped up competition on day two of the Harvard Carnival on Saturday.
 
In the opening day of alpine competition at Burke Mountain after Friday's action was postponed, Ryan (10th) and Halvorsen (12th) paced four Crimson with top-30 finishes on the day.
 
On the second day of action of nordic events at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, Drolet completed a weekend sweep after he also took the men's 15k classic mass start on Friday. Donley closed the weekend with a pair of top-20 finishes.  

Harvard Highlights: Alpine

  • Junior Matt Ryan led the Crimson with a 10th-place finish in men's slalom, posting a total time of 1:26.71 with 30 EISA points and 26 NCAA points. His day included a sixth-place finish in run one.
  • Senior Elsie Halvorsen placed 12th in women's slalom and posted her third top-30 finish in as many races to open the year. She posted a total time of 1:32.30, 29 EISA points, and 22 NCAA points.
  • Sophomore Luke Kearing came in 22nd place in 1:27.67 for 19 EISA points and nine NCAA points.
  • Senior Liam McNamara placed 24th and has finished in the top-30 in all three races this season. He moved up with his second run, finishing with a total time of 1:28.56 for 17 EISA points and seven NCAA points.
  • As a team, the men came in sixth with 66 points.
  • Alpine's giant slalom event, originally scheduled for Friday at Burke Mountain, was postponed due to weather conditions.
 

Harvard Highlights: Nordic Day 2

  • Senior Rémi Drolet captured the men's 7.5k skate with a time of 16:02, completing a weekend sweep of first-place finishes. He totaled 50 EISA points and 100 NCAA points for the second straight day. Drolet has placed in the top three at all six races this carnival season.
  • Junior Quincy Donley paced the women's team with a 20th-place finish in the 7.5k skate with a time of 19:33, collecting 23 EISA points and 11 NCAA points. She placed in the top-20 in both events on the weekend.
  • First-year Sam Gallaudet came in 27th in the men's race with a time of 17:30, notching 18 EISA points and four NCAA points.
  • Sophomore Hayden McJunkin tallied a 33rd-place finish in 20:08, tallying 19 EISA points and two NCAA points while Breagh Bridge came in 38th in 20:26 for 17 EISA points.
  • Senior Laura Appleby (43rd, 20:32) and first-year Clara Lake (49th, 20:38) also finished in the top 50.
  • The men's team came in fifth on day two with 75 points while the women's side placed seventh on day two with 59 points.

Harvard's alpine team will close out the UVM Carnival tomorrow – Sunday, Feb. 4 – at Burke and Feb. 8 at the Dartmouth Skiway before both teams compete at the Dartmouth Carnival from Feb. 9-10 with alpine events taking place at the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme Center, New Hampshire and nordic competition occurring at Oak Hill in Hanover, New Hampshire.
