Alpine Skiing Closes Out Harvard Carnival with Rescheduled Giant Slalom

BURKE, Vt. – Senior Elsie Halvorsen placed 13th in the women's giant slalom, and senior Liam McNamara finished 18th in the men's giant slalom as Harvard University skiing completed the second day of alpine events and third day overall at the 2024 Harvard Carnival on Sunday at Burke Mountain.

The Crimson persevered through three days at Burke after Friday's competition was postponed to Sunday due to cloud cover that severely limited visibility on the course. Saturday's competition featured an excellent surface – one of the best at Burke in multiple years. Harvard posted solid results in Saturday's slalom – results the team will look to build off over the rest of the season. Sunday's giant slalom featured a difficult course set in run one that challenged several athletes, but the day's competition allowed the program to complete its second full carnival of 2024 under beautiful sunny skies.

For the weekend, the Crimson's alpine team totaled six top-30 finishes, including two each from Halvorsen and McNamara. Halvorsen posted a pair of top-13 efforts.

In Saturday's slalom event, the Crimson posted four top-30 finishes, including a 10th-place finish from junior Matt Ryan, 12th-place finish from Halvorsen, 22nd-place finish from sophomore Luke Kearing, and 24th-place finish from McNamara.
