HOUSTON, TEXAS – Harvard track & field opened the 2024 outdoor season at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational, as the Crimson kick started the new campaign with strong results across the board.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- In her outdoor debut, first-year Alice Mihas secured a top-three finish in the women's hammer throw, taking third place with an attempt of 53.67m (176'1").
- Junior Jeremiah Swett began his third outdoor campaign with the Crimson with a fourth place finish in the men's javelin, hitting 50.50m (165'8").
- After competing in the men's high jump at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend, first-year Tito Alofe took the runway in the men's long jump at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational, as the Peachtree City, Ga. native took ninth place after a jump of 6.71m (22'0.25").
- In the women's discus, first-year Milina Wepiwé captured first place, sitting atop the podium with an attempt of 45.68m (149'10"). Wepiwé's throw ranks eighth all-time in Harvard's record book.
- Fellow first-year Isaac Delaney recorded a 16.12m (52'10.75") in the men's shot put, putting him in third place.
- The Crimson took first and second place in the women's pole vault. A second team All-Ivy League selection in the indoor season, junior Anastasia Retsa won the event after clearing the bar at 4.10m (13'5.25"). Teammate and first-year Lilly Hodge logged a second place finish after posting a 4.00m (13'1.5") vault.
- The first-years continued to find success in the field events, as first-year Klara Barbic took second after clearing 1.65m (5'5").
- On the track, the men's 4x100m team of Timi Esan, Lance Ward, Jonas Clarke, and Gregory Lapit combined for a time of 40.31, taking second place and fourth all-time in school history.
- Two Crimson runners placed in the top-five of the men's 1500m, as sophomore Justin Levy placed second with a result 4:07.25, while senior Peter Diebold finished the race in fourth (4:07.41).
- Harvard saw another top-five performance in the women's 100m hurdles, as sophomore Fabiola Belibi secured fifth with a time of 13.82. Finishing in seventh was senior Jada Johnson (14.61).
- In the men's 100m, Esan sprinted to a top-10 finishing, securing seventh with a time of 10.39.
- The reigning Ivy League women's 500m champion, junior Victoria Bossong won the women's 400m, running a 54.28.
- In the men's 400m hurdles, junior Peter Fischer took fourth (53.30), while first-year Simon Weiser placed seventh (54.81).
