CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard fencers look to punch their tickets to the 2024 NCAA Fencing Championships this weekend, as the Crimson head to New York for a third time this season to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Sunday, Mar. 10. The meet begins at 9 a.m. and is hosted by Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y.
WHAT TO KNOW:
- The Crimson last took the strip on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11, competing at the 2024 Ivy League Fencing Championships.
- The women's team put in a great effort at the 2024 Ivy League Fencing Championships, as the squad won 60 percent of its bouts on the strip, boasting a +68-indicator.
- The men earned a share of the Ivy League title in New York, N.Y., winning the championship for a second consecutive season and for the 13th time in program history.
- On the women's side, defending NCAA women's foil champion Lauren Scruggs looks to take home gold in home state on Sunday. Scruggs won silver at last season's NCAA Northeast Regional Championships.
- In her last collegiate competition, Scruggs posted a perfect 12-0 record at the St. John's Invitational.
- Finishing in sixth at the 2023 NCAA Northeast Regionals, Zoe Kim looks to qualify for the NCAA National Championships for a second straight year. In her last outing, Kim went 14-4 with a +29 indicator on her way to the Ivy League Women's Saber title.
- Junior foil fencer and team captain James Chen starred at the Ivy League Fencing Championships, taking home All-Ivy League First Team honors after posting a 10-2 record in New York, N.Y.
- A native of New York, N.Y., Chen earned a silver medal at last season's NCAA Northeast Regional Championships.
- Senior Jonas Hansen heads to Budapest, Hungary this weekend for the Senior Men's Foil World Cup.
