CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 11 Harvard men's tennis (15-5, 1-0 Ivy) picked up a pair of victories over Dartmouth (7-11, 0-1 Ivy) and Tufts (5-5, 1-2 NESCAC) this weekend as it returned to Cambridge.
The Crimson Start Ivy Play with a Dominant Win Over Dartmouth
In its quest to win its third straight Ivy League championship, the Crimson started hot by downing Dartmouth, 7-0. Harvard breezed through doubles as
Daniel Milavsky and
Cooper Williams did not drop a single game followed by
David Lins and
Alan Yim securing the point with a 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Moving into singles action,
Melchior Delloye and
Masato Perera each capitalized quickly to pull the Crimson within a point of clinching the match. Neither of the sophomores dropped more than two games as Delloye downed Yujiro Onuma, 6-1, 6-0 while Perera won his No. 6 match, 6-1, 6-1.
The first-year, Williams registered his first career Ivy win and ultimately clinched the match for the Crimson by downing Henry Ren, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot with three matches outstanding.
Rohan Murali continued the Crimson winning ways and joined Williams in first career Ivy wins by defeating Alex Knox-Jones at the No. 5 position.
The final two Crimson wins of the day came in 10-point third set tiebreakers courtesy of Milavsky and
Ronan Jachuck at the No. 2 and 3 spots to secure the shutout victory.
Harvard Sweeps the Day, Downing Tufts, 6-0
In its second match of the day, the Crimson defeated crosstown foe, Tufts, 6-0. Milavsky and Williams registered their second victory of the afternoon downing their opponents at the No. 1 spot, 6-3. The Crimson swept doubles play as the No. 2 and 3 spots each won their matches, 6-4 and 6-2, respectively.
In singles, Harvard was victories in straight sets at the No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 spots with
Masato Perera,
Valdemar Pape,
Alan Yim, and
David Lins each registering wins. Perera dropped the least number of games of any Crimson player in the match, only letting up three games to Javier Gonzalez (Tufts) at the No. 2 spot.
James Macdonald registered the final victory of the day with a relentless win over Garv Bahl (Tufts) at the No. 6 position. Either player traded set wins in tiebreakers before Macdonald gutted out a 15-13 third set tiebreaker to solidify the Crimson sweep.
Harvard Highlights
- Milavsky and Williams registered their team-leading 20th win of 2023-24 by picking up a pair of victories against Dartmouth and Tufts.
- While teaming up for the first time in dual action, Lins and Yim went 2-0 on the day to help the Crimson secure both doubles points.
- With their wins against the Big Green, Williams and Murali each registered their first career Ivy wins.
- Milavsky continues to lead the Crimson in singles victories, improving to 16-6 overall and 12-3 in dual action.
- Perera finished the day 2-0 in singles action by defeating Hikaru Takeda (Dartmouth) and Javier Gonzalez (Tufts) while dropping just five games across both matches.
