Sam King Named a 2024 Tewaaraton Award Nominee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sam King has dominated his way through the 2024 season, leading the Crimson in goals, assists and points through the team's first 11 games. A Baltimore native, King has established himself as one of the most all-around players in college lacrosse, displaying a skillset and showcasing a stat line that is unlike any other at the collegiate ranks. His efforts have been recognized throughout the season, none of which are more prestigious than his appointment as a 2024 Tewaaraton Award nominee, that was announced today by the Tewaaraton Foundation. King is the first Harvard student-athlete to be selected as a top-25 nominee since Devin Dwyer '16 was named to the 2016 list.

The well-deserved recognition for King puts him in the conversation for National Player of the Year and makes him only the second player in program history to make it to this point in the selection process. King hopes to become the first player in program history to be named a Tewaaraton Finalist when the five candidates are announced in early May.

An indicator of his all-around skillset, King is currently the only player in the nation to have recorded 60 points, 30 goals, 30 assists, 30 ground balls and five caused turnovers. Excelling in all phases of the game, King has shown his effectiveness all over the field in 2024. Currently, King ranks second in the nation with 6.09 points per game.

The Gilman School product has used one of best offensive season in Crimson history to fly up all-time leaders list in the Harvard men's lacrosse record book. Currently, King owns 67 points in 2024 which is already tied for the sixth-most in a season in program history. With two games remaining, King needs eight more points to reach the No. 2 position on the list. He also entered the top ten in the career points list this season where he ranks tied for seventh with his career total of 169. The all-time leader, Mike Eckert '96, recorded 243 career points from 1993-96. King is also currently tied for ninth on the career assist leader list with 79.

King will look to continue his impressive season this weekend when he and his teammates make the trip to Cornell looking to knock off the nationally ranked Big Red in Ithaca.
