Aurich Announces Football Coaching Staff

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Andrew Aurich, The Thomas Stephenson Family Head Coach for Harvard Football, announced today his coaching staff for the 2024 campaign.

Returning off Harvard's 2023 Ivy League-title-winning coaching staff are Scott Larkee '99, Ryan Crawford, Mickey Fein, Logan Johnson, Drew Jacobs, Laz Mitjans Jr. and Joel Lamb '93. Joining the group, meanwhile, is a familiar face in Steven Williams '08, Jim Jackson and Cinjun Erskine.

Larkee will begin his 19th season at Harvard in 2024 as the team's associate head coach, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Meanwhile, Crawford, who returned to Cambridge last season for a second stint with the Crimson, will begin Year 8 at Harvard as the program's assistant head coach, overseeing the defensive backs.

Also returning on the defensive side of the ball will be Logan Johnson and Drew Jacobs. Johnson will coach the defensive line and is entering his 10th campaign with the Crimson, while Jacobs is set to begin his second season mentoring the safeties.

On the other side of the ball, Fein, an assistant head coach, will return to his play-calling duties for a fourth straight year as offensive coordinator and coach Harvard's quarterbacks. Fein, who is entering his eighth season overall, will team with Mitjans, a second-year running backs coach, along with Williams, Jackson and Erskine.

Williams returns to the program he experienced much success with as a player and will serve as assistant head coach. A three-time Harvard letterwinner (2005, 2006, 2007), Williams tied the school record for most interceptions in a season (8 in 2007) and set the program standard for career INTs with 16, all while helping the Crimson win the 2007 Ivy League championship. The 2007 Associated Press All-America Third-Team selection comes back to Harvard after a five-year stint at Campbell, where he served as assistant head coach and special teams coordinator before being named interim head coach in Dec. 2023. Williams, who has also spent time with Detroit Lions, Penn State and South Carolina, will serve as special teams coordinator, while coaching the wide receivers.

Like Williams, Jackson played in the Ivy League, competing in football and baseball at Cornell. Jackson brings a wealth of knowledge to Harvard having coached for 20 years at nine different collegiate programs (Methodist College, Lehigh, Toledo, Louisiana-Lafayette, Minnesota, Southern Illinois, San Diego, UMass, Rice). Last season, Jackson served as an offensive line coach and run-game coordinator at Cypress Springs (Texas) High in the Houston area, where he helped the Panthers double their win total from the previous season, finishing the campaign with an 8-3 record. Jackson will coach the O-line as an assistant coach with the Crimson.

Erskine, who will tutor the tight ends as an assistant, steps foot in Cambridge from Rutgers, where he spent two seasons with the program -- first as a player development assistant and then graduate assistant working with the quarterbacks. Before joining the Scarlet Knights, Erskine served as The College of Saint Scholastica's special teams coordinator and QB coach (2019), was an assistant coach at IMG Academy (2020) in Florida and directed the defense for Del Valle High School (2021) in Austin, Texas. Erskine played college football at Bucknell but suffered a career-ending injury as a freshman in 2015. For the remainder of his time in Lewisberg, Pennsylvania, Erskine served as a student assistant (2016-19), working with the quarterbacks.

Lamb, meanwhile, will serve as associate head coach/director of recruiting strategy and alumni engagement. A former Harvard quarterback, Lamb will enter his 19th season with the Crimson in 2024. Last season, Lamb tutored the Crimson signal callers, who helped the program to its first Ivy championship since 2015.

Harvard is coming off a 2023 campaign that saw it finish with an 8-2 record and capture its 18th conference title. The Crimson opens the '24 season on Sept. 21, with a home contest vs. Stetson, which is one of six home games scheduled for Harvard Stadium. Season tickets for 2024 are currently on sale at GoCrimson.com.
