CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Tennis, the 2024 Ivy League champions, will play host to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The action is slated for Friday-Saturday, May 3-4, at Beren Tennis Center.
The No. 12-seed Crimson will face Boston University on Friday at 2 p.m. ET. Prior to the hosts taking the court, Denver and Michigan State will clash at 11 a.m. ET. Both matches will stream live on Stretch Internet.
The winner of each first-round match will face on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET, with a trip to the Round of 16 on the line. Admission is free for both days.
What to Know
- The three-time defending Ivy League champions secured an NCAA tournament berth on Monday for the fifth straight competition season (2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024). The 2020 NCAA event was canceled due to the pandemic and the Ivy League did not compete in 2021.
- In its last five NCAA appearances, Harvard is 4-4, including a 2-1 mark last season, which propelled it to the Round of 16. Its Sweet-16 berth was the program's first since 2004.
- The Crimson is playing host the NCAA first and second rounds for the third consecutive season. In the previous two years, Harvard has gone 3-2 overall and 2-0 in first-round action.
- Harvard finished the regular season with a 20-6 record (6-1 Ivy League). The 20 victories are the second-most under sixth-year head coach Andrew Rueb '95, ranking second only to the 21 victories achieved last year.
- Over the last three seasons, Harvard is 60-17 overall and 20-1 vs. Ivy League competition.
- The Crimson is set to face BU for a second time this season. Harvard defeated the Terriers, 7-0, at home back on Feb. 29.
- Harvard is 20-0 all-time vs. Boston University. The Crimson has shutout BU four straight times (2019: 6-0; 2020: 5-0; 2023: 6-0; 2024: 7-0).
- On the other side of the bracket, Harvard is 4-1 all-time vs. Michigan State and 3-1 vs. Denver. The Crimson last faced the Spartans in 2018 (W, 4-1) and the Pioneers in 2016 (L, 3-4).
- Harvard comes into the postseason having won two straight matches (W, 4-0 vs. No. 66 Penn; W, 4-3 vs. No. 27 Princeton) and seven of its last eight.
- Michigan State heads to Cambridge having gone 22-6 overall and 7-2 in Big Ten action. Denver, meanwhile, is a perfect 23-0 and 5-0 in the Summit League.
- Individually, Cooper Williams earned the Ivy League's automatic berth to the NCAA singles tournament and is a 9-16 seed. Henry von der Schulenburg, meanwhile, is an alternate for the singles bracket.
- Williams and Daniel Milavsky will represent Harvard in the NCAA doubles tournament. The singles and doubles event will take place May 20-25 at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
