STILLWATER, Okla. –
Cooper Williams of No. 12 Harvard men's tennis continued his strong play in the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships singles draw this morning, dropping No. 24 Tyler Zink (Oklahoma State) in straight sets.
Playing against an opponent with home court advantage, Williams fell behind 2-5 in the opening set. Not deterred by the deficit, the Crimson first-year battled back, ultimately taking the set, 7-6 (4).
To solidify his spot in the Round of 16, Williams mostly controlled the second set, closing the match against Zink (Oklahoma State) with a 6-3 decision. With the victory, Williams earned All-America status, becoming the first Crimson first-year to do so since James Blake in 1998. As he looks to advance to advance to the quarterfinals, Williams will battle No. 75 Pablo Masjuan (UCSB) tomorrow.
This evening, Williams returned to the court with
Daniel Milavsky to open the doubles draw. Despite battling neck-and-neck with No. 11 Petar Jovanovic/Benito Sanchez Martinez (Mississippi State), forcing either set to tiebreakers, the Crimson duo fell in the Round of 32, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4).
