CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 12 Harvard men's tennis (21-6, 6-1 Ivy) blanked its NCAA Tournament round of 64 opponent for the third straight season, dropping crosstown rival, Boston University (21-8, 6-0 Patriot League), 4-0.
How it Happened
The Crimson opened the 2024 NCAA Tournament by collecting the doubles point off of victories at the No. 1 and 3 spots. The No. 19 nationally ranked duo of
Daniel Milavsky and
Cooper Williams got back into the win column and grabbed the first Crimson win of the day by defeating their opponents, 6-2.
Masato Perera and
Alan Yim notched the same results a few moments later to put Harvard up 1-0 in the match.
By picking up his second win of the day, Milavsky pulled the Crimson further ahead, downing Jakob Esterowitz (BU), 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 position.
Perera and
Melchior Delloye solidified the match for the Crimson, finishing within minutes of each other and posting identical 6-2, 6-4 decisions over their BU counterparts.
Harvard Highlights
- With the win the Crimson advance to its third straight NCAA round of 32, having not dropped a single match to its opening round opponents in the stretch.
- The victory is Harvard's second of the season over its crosstown foe, BU. The Crimson expand its dominance in the all-time series against the Terriers, holding a 21-0 advantage.
- Improving to 21-6 on the year, the Crimson not only match its record from last season but match the most wins for Harvard with Andrew Rueb '95, the Scott Mead '77 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Tennis, at the helm.
- Milavsky and Williams who recently punched their tickets to the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma, collected their team-best 23rd doubles win of the season this afternoon.
- By clinching the doubles point, Perera and Yim also kept their successes going, improving to 6-1 on the year. The duo has helped the Crimson collect the doubles point in each of the last three matches.
- Milavsky becomes the first Crimson player to eclipse 20 singles victories on the year with his straight set victory at the No. 2 spot.
- With his victory at the No. 5 spot, Perera collected his tenth win of the dual season. The sophomore has appeared in every spot on the ladder this year and is now 2-0 at the No. 5 position.
- Delloye remains undefeated at the No. 4 spot, collecting his fourth win at the position and his 16th overall of the season.
