CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing collected several 2024 ICSA postseason honors, including the organization's top sailor and crew accolades, and had eight athletes earn All-America recognition on Friday.
Lachlain McGranahan was named the sport's College Sailor of the Year, with senior classmate
Marbella Marlo being voted as the Mitchell M. Brindley Crew of the Year.
McGranahan, who beat out teammate
Justin Callahan along with Robert Bragg (Dartmouth), Teddy Nicolosi (Yale) and Colman Schofield (U.S. Coast Guard), secured the Everett Morris Memorial Trophy, which is presented annually to the "Best Intercollegiate Sailor." Morris was a world-renowned yachting journalist and editor, and a member of the Naval Academy's FALES Committee.
Hailing from Miami, Florida, McGranahan is the fourth Crimson sailor to take home the Everett Morris Memorial Trophy, joining Ewell Potts IV '04 (2004), Clayton Bischoff '03 (2003) and Sean Doyle '02 (2002). This past season, McGranahan helped Harvard finish in second place at the ICSA Open Team Racing National Championship before guiding the Crimson to victory at the ICSA Open Fleet Racing National Championship.
Marlo, meanwhile, is just the second sailor to receive the Mitchell M. Brindley Crew of the Year Award. Originally established in 2023, the honor is given each year to the most outstanding crew in college sailing and is named after the Old Dominion All-America crew and 22-year president of College Sailing.
Marlo, who was selected over Gwendolyn Donahue (Stanford), Sarah Moeder (Yale) and Yumi Yoshiyasu (Dartmouth), was instrumental in Harvard's runner-up effort at open team race nationals, which marked the program's second straight top-2 performance, and its title-winning effort at the national open fleet race regatta. The Newport Beach, California, native was also a part of the Crimson's women's team that finished in fifth place (best in program history) at the ICSA Women's Team Race National Championship and seventh in the women's fleet race event.
As for Harvard's All-America recipients, McGranahan and sophomore
Justin Callahan landed on the Open Skipper list, with
Mitchell Callahan garnering Open Skipper Honorable Mention accolades. McGrahanan leaves Harvard as a three-time All-American, while Justin and
Mitchell Callahan have captured All-America honors in each of their first two seasons.
Similar to her classmates Justin and
Mitchell Callahan,
Kennedy Leehealey is now a two-time Crew All-American after picking up the same recognition a year ago. Marlo and
Alexandra Dorofeev (honorable mention), meanwhile, joined Leehealey on the All-America list for the first time of their careers.
On the women's side,
Cordelia Burn was named to the Skipper All-America squad for the second time, just 12 months after she was named to the Honorable Mention list.
Sarah Burn, a senior, was also recognized as an honorable mention sailor, marking the fourth time she has earned All-America status.
